Just wanted to let you know and apologize for the late send-over. We had a power outage for 14 hours yesterday from the storm, so I couldn't get online yesterday at all.

Winter...
Don't apolgize, we had rainstorm-weather for the whole weekend (and I love winter and rain ^o^); but I hope you are well then?
Yes, well enough, though sore from doing some 'heavy' labor during that time.
We had cellar flooding, though it wasn't bad, just a couple inches, had to squeegee that a bit last night after the power came back on to start the drying-out process, then yesterday had to shovel down to the mailbox... really that was just to pass some down-time (not a long driveway, only two car lengths). I'm really a modern-day woman, I likes me electricity! And of course tv and the internet. And making a regular meal... Hah!

I like nasty storms, they're fun to experience, but after living in Pa for most of my life, I've had enough of the snow and ICE-storms for a couple lifetimes... at least this lifetime. Va is a bit easier on winter-life. I'm still good on thunderstorms though, they're still my favorites and where I'm at now, when the thunder rolls... it rolls and rolls and rolls! It's cool here.

It sounds like you're surviving just fine as well. No danger of floods or slides?

That sounds like fun (not) ^^' Nah, germany is really mild if it concerns natural disasters - so the most we had were flooded cellars or a bit of snow (if it snows more that 1 feet I'd actually be happy... in the last years the snow was just there for a few days and now some people beginn throwing salt as soon if it's just a bit frozen -.- histeria much?) Sounds like were you live it is a bit more... intense? ;)

United States.
Really, unless you live in hawaii or california, there isn't just 'mild weather' in a single year. And with the volcanoes on hawaii, or the earthquakes (and now wildfires and massive slides) in california, experiencing nasty weather is just something you must learn to live with.
I'm on the east coast of the states, about midway down the mountain range along the coast. Although we're protected from tornadoes were I am, we'll still get the occasional thunderstorm with hail, gusts and wind that can knock you off your feet, some flooding (although in the mountains it always runs away from me :D Hah!) And of course nor'easters (blizzard-like snowstorms). These last ones really drop more rain than snow, I'm not north enough anymore for the heavy snow. And also hurricanes (but again, though I live on the east side, I'm not that close to the coast, so they die quite a bit in strength before getting to me). I suppose where I am now could be considered 'mild' compared to what could happen anywhere in the US in any given year.

I also know about that hysteria for snowfall though. When I lived in Pennsylvania, I'd go out driving to work even if the roads where covered or there was icy conditions. Down here in Virginia however, the first sign of a snowflake and the road-crews are salting to the next millennium. However, there's some gnarly up and down hills here, so I don't mind them salting until the paint peels off. That being said, these drivers in this area certainly lack experience for winter-weather driving and should really travel to Pennsylvania for some hands-on.

Ok, that is a bit further off ^^' there are some inactive volcanos in the mountain ranges near where I live but that's about it... Well, indeed your weather sounds a lot more 'exciting' than here but comparativly mild when you have volcanic islands or mostly plains (wide playing ranges for wind in any form) as competitors ;) And drivers alsways seem to lack in winter - it is somewhere near tearshedding hillarious when we drive in winter to my grandma, she lives up the mentioned mountainrange and the dear city-drivers on steep roads? you don't know if crying or laughing would be better when you have one of these in front of you - the joy <.<

You're right, it is pretty funny to watch them drive.
They slide a little on some ice and you see them start to panic even though they're no longer on the ice. I wonder sometimes what goes through their heads. They obviously had to do something 'seriously important' to get them out when they knew the weather was bad that day.

"Oh, I've just got to get some more food for my cat! He's got only two weeks left... and the snow will last through tonight, and be melted by tomorrow, but my cat will run out of food! I just got to go out in this icy, snowy, prone-to-accident weather to get him more!"

Even if they're risking getting fired from their job, what could be so important to drive on roads when they know they suck at driving?

That being said, it certainly gives ME something to giggle about. Maybe I'm a little mean, but a little fender-bender when they walk away unscathed is meant for those that choose to do something stupid. If they're going to risk sliding on ice, they need to learn to drive on it first.
Of course, even I will avoid treacherous mountain roads in the middle of an ice or snow storm. I may be a bit dense at times, but I'm not that suicidal! Hah!

Speaking of however, I'd prefer those aforementioned drivers behind me when going uphill. :P

god, you got my thoughts exactly X) and I share the dark amusement watching them struggle after a bit of sliding - and respecting the treacherous roads in watery/frozen conditions is just being intelligent ;)

We are supposed to be more than just dumb, reactive animals after all, but if some alien just glances around at any random event, I can't honestly say they'll see anything else... humanity certainly has a long way still to go.
But, for some reason, I still keep hoping that there are a larger number of smarter people out there. Hah! Well... maybe I should consider crying there instead of laughing...

That is a fact I've long lost hope about; there seems to be just too much dumbness - or ignorance (sometimes I don't know which is worse) for having hope <.< Maybe the reason is as simple as that people aren't really THAT stupid, but living seems easier if you pretend to be, and at some point pretending beginns to be habit and then you could argue if these people still can be considered 'actually smart/not dumb' or dumb in real life :/

I can see that.
I was raised in a 'don't-rock-the-boat' type of a family. So instead of arguing and causing a fuss and trying to get people to actually be smart, I just ignore it and go my own way... laughing at their misfortune while I'm at it, of course I'm not much for people getting injured though. I'd rather see somebody be 'super' embarrassed and walk away unhurt, rather than see somebody get what they might deserve and be driven away in an ambulance barely hanging onto their life. That being said, I am one of those that does believe there is, or should be a 'learn-your-lesson' limit.

There really isn't that much difference between being dumb and being ignorant. The one I don't like is stupidity. At least if somebody is dumb, it just means they can't get any better. Being ignorant is just the simple lack of being educated in whatever area. Stupidity is when the smart and learned choose to do the same things and still expect a different result. Or worse, they choose to be ignorant when in fact, they know better.

My mother was (kind of surprisingly) really open about most things, letting us test the waters, going with trends that were not always condsidered 'normal' in society, she gave us rules though - but mostly for our own protection and I'm really glad she did so if I see in comparision some families or people I knew and what they do/are now -.-' so yes, there are cases of society being the reason for willfull ignorance/stupid or where protecting yourself with being conform/not different in perspective, mind or ambition against closeminded others is needed; but being willfully ignorant if it just is easier to be and choking yourself or others with this is generally sad and makes me angry.

There is a reason why I generally say that I hate humans - but that doesn't mean I can't like individuals/people.
We have knowledge, resources and methods to be so much better than we are, we just have to be willing to invest ourselves, try to reason for our goals with words or just producing better results than pressuring others with loss of any kind (be it live, freedom, family, safety, stability of living, proprietory possessions and so on). Contentment of self is equally important, but if one would be willing but choose not to invest his mind or abilities because of the stupidity and closemindedness of others that is something that makes me also angry and disappointed in humans.
