Could a Turk/Arab mixed another Turk/Arab throw a Teke?
I would've thought yes, but my recent breeding of such a pair didn't turn out, even though the colt has four stars for Akhal-Teke.
Is it possible but just random?

Yes it will work. Not always like with any new breed but yes. I did this in beta with Ardes - Forest x Belgians with other Forest x Belgians.
I quote the following from larissa:

I quote the following from larissa:
Here's the entire thread that quote came from:The breed recipes have to be followed correctly in order to get the new breed. The only exception to this rule is for 1st gen crosses such as the Akhal-Teke. A Teke is an ArabxTurk, but you could create the Akhal-Teke by crossing two ArabxTurks to each other.

I thought I read that somewhere.
Am I mistaken in thinking that four stars will always mean a successful cross then...?

No. Four stars means a successful cross is more likely, but it's never a guarantee. You can get a new breed for two horses completely out of range, if you get really lucky.

Re: Could a Turk/Arab mixed another Turk/Arab throw a Teke?
Clarifying question -- I know that if the sire is 4* for a new breed and the dam is 4* for a breed, it doesn't mean the foal is guaranteed to be the new breed -- the foal may not be 4*. However, if the foal has the correct ancestry and the foal itself is 4* for the breed, shouldn't it always turn out to be that breed?
Macabre mentioned that the colt itself was 4* for Akhal-Teke, and I was also under the impression that a 4* foal with correct ancestry was guaranteed to be the new breed.

on a similar note, I was wondering if a arabxturk + teke could throw a Teke or will it come out half teke?

Re: Could a Turk/Arab mixed another Turk/Arab throw a Teke?
Unless it's a bug and I think there may be some still lurking, the individual stat breakdown beyond the 4* eval might have had Macabre's colt right on the line. I've seen some evaluated stats be right on the line for my own horses that toggle for or against. We can't see the actual numbers in the database from our end and it might just be rounding up for us being in reality not enough to trigger the new breed. Better to air on the side of caution and make quality sires and dams to create a new breed or just live on the dangerous side and pair what you wish and hope for the best. Equal results I think within the margin of errorChatoyancy wrote:Clarifying question -- I know that if the sire is 4* for a new breed and the dam is 4* for a breed, it doesn't mean the foal is guaranteed to be the new breed -- the foal may not be 4*. I think it would be half Teke wouldn't it? The crosses have to be as said for it to workKeezheekoni wrote:on a similar note, I was wondering if a arabxturk + teke could throw a Teke or will it come out half teke?

Re: Could a Turk/Arab mixed another Turk/Arab throw a Teke?
yeah the two foals I had resulted as testing from this pairing type were both half teke despite their dam being a fail teke
