Double checking my belgians?

Post by JKDPerformance »

I have an upgraded account, and Belgian book etc. I believe these guys are good stock.
Working on training of course. I can not reply to messages so please just post on this thread.

Here are the horses I'd like "double checked" to make sure I'm breeding correctly.
My goal is to have colorful, well bred, pure Belgians that excel in driving and/or log pull.

Horses I have bred myself.

Obstacle and Marathon Driving share a very similar body design as log pull, the biggest difference is that these two driving competitions are for slightly lighter body types.
The stats for each of these are as follows:
Log Pull---------------Strength Stamina Movement Tempo
Marathon Driving----Strength Stamina Tempo Intelligence
Obstacle Driving-----Strength Agility Stamina Balance

So your bloodlines should offer strong stats in Strength, Stamina, Movement, Tempo, Agility, Balance and Intelligence. This is seven out of all eight stats. Choosing just one or just two competitions that share all or three of the four stats makes it easier to custom design a bloodline. Personally, Log Pull and Marathon Driving would probably be my choice. This way you'd need Strength, Stamina, Tempo, Movement and Intelligence.

It appears (body design) like your heading in the right direction. But in order to head toward the top tier and start breaking records in your chosen disciplines, you'll need to find talent in your bloodlines and pass this on throughout your stock.
So what's the conclusion I have thus far for you? By body design, they look good. By breeder's report they seem sound. But without any competition history, you don't have enough of the equation to finish determining if your bloodlines are merely good or a great start or if they are in fact, an outstanding foundation for your project.
That said, we all start somewhere and outstanding bloodlines can be produced from mediocre or even horrible foundations with the right selective breeding.

By the way, your foundation stud, Bay My Heart Go On, he's a sharp looking stud. :D

When I got Bay my heart go on, I looked at his breeders report and was amazed, and he is my favorite foundation so far that I have gotten from the adoption center.
Thank you for your insight! I thought I was headed in the right direction and I was actually leaning more toward marathon in driving rather then anything else in driving. Then of course the Log pull.

Thank you so very very much!
