Got a crossbreed and not the new horse breed...

Post by Ljusalv »

So I bred a Quarter Horse and a Missouri Fox Trotter, thinking I'd get a Kentucky Mountain Saddle horse. Instead, I got a Quarter x Missouri crossbreed. Why is that? Accorfing to the breed wiki they are the breeds that create Kentuckys.
They're all in my New pasture, if anyone wants to take a look at them.

You're not always guaranteed a new breed, just because you combine the breeds necessary.

Have you bought the evaluation book for the breed you want to create? If not, I suggest you do that and evaluate both the mare and the stallion. The more they fit the Kentucky Mountain Saddle criteria, the more likely you are to get one from them. Sometimes you'll get one every time you breed, other times the mare may only yield one, two or none at all during her life.

I spent two weeks trying to make an Andalusian this summer, and now I'm stuck with the same problem for the East Friesian (which is a lot harder to correct, since it's a much more advanced breed).

I went ahead and bought the evaluation book for the breed you want - and neither the mare or the stallion fit very well. They are too heavy and too tall.

My suggestions is that you buy the evaluation book and search the markets until you find horses that fit the criteria. And best of luck to you! :)
