Training Alterations

Post by Nate »

I really like that the recent changes to training have made it something other than the horrendous task that it was. Combined with the limitation on the number of days I can store and the slow accumulation of those days, I have begin training my horses, both to test, to utilize time, and to crush Maximus. I have been making some training decisions that would be incredibly poor decisions in real life, such as starting training at birth and continuing to train the thinnest horses I have as hard as possible.

While I don't typically support restrictions on what a player can and can't do in this context, I feel that this issue needs to be addressed somehow. I believe it might be resolved through further tweaking to the training system. There's no reason to prohibit players from doing some work with their youngsters, as riding as young as 18 months is a fairly common practice in some industries, though ill-advised. However, a young horse like that should not be able to make such large gains as a horse in their prime. Similarly, an old horse past their prime is not capable of such physical feats as they were when they were in their prime. A horse with very poor BSC would have similar problems.

This is likely already planned, but how about making it so that young, old, and skinny horses are far more easy to injure during training or to get sick? It would have to be enough to put most players off from doing much with them until they are older/heavier. Alternately, I could see it work by limiting stamina gain for certain classes of horses, or even taking stamina conditioning away for horses that became old or unhealthy. However, I suspect that this would be much more difficult to code and balance. Or a combination of increased chances of injury and sickness and a baseline of fatigue for certain classes, which would certainly have the effect of slower or non-existent stat gain even with training.

Thoughts?

Yes, I think this is a good idea. But, I think, if this is added, if we could also get a warning of 'this horse is too young/old/skinny/injured/sick to training safely' that can be turned on or off. With the way I train, I see neither weight nor age; I also don't reload the pages when I go to the next day (since I'm too impatient for that) so I often don't know about changes in my horses' conditions.
