Hey all, I'm new here....

Post by H&JStables »

So, I have a few questions. First of all, how do you gain money?!?!? The tutorial took all of my money and I have roughly 2,000 left. I looked at the horses for sale here and all the ones worth getting all seem to be for sale for more than that! Secondly, which horses do you guys recommend investing in? Obviously I have no money right now, but eventually what horses do you all suggest I start working with? Which ones are worth owning? And finally, how do you train your horse? When you set up their training it does like nothing...

I would also Like to say a little bit about myself. I am from Idaho and own roughly, about 21 horses in real life. All of them are Quarter Horses but quite a few of them are a cross of Quarter Horse and something else. I have looked at quarter horses in the game and none of them look like the real thing though, which is a little disappointing. In the summer I train colts and cow-dogs for people, I also don't have internet at home so I won't be on at all during the summer  But I can't wait to get to know all of you!!

Hey there! Welcome to the game.

First off, you're not actually in bad shape! That sounds like exactly where I was at when I was starting out. You can do a lot with 2,000. There are plenty of fine horses for cheap (you gotta work up from somewhere, right?), and you have plenty of money to enter local shows as well as public shows with, and that's how you get your money.

As for which horses to get, it all depends on what your goals are. I personally like to pick breeds that I gravitate toward just because I like them, and start pulling together a herd that I work on improving over the generations. If you're interested in breeding champion competitors and don't care about the breeds so much, then even breeding Grade Horses is worth it. (And hey, if you're not happy with how the Quarter Horses look, a good goal is to start at the bottom and grow up your own bloodline of Quarter Horses that focus on making the breed look true-to-life!)

There are plenty of Guides posted in the help section to answer all of your other new-player questions too. I've been playing for a little while now and I'm still referring back to them all the time for help.

And it's nice to meet you. I'm living out in Seattle right now, and have been through Idaho a couple times-- it's beautiful!

Find a horse in the market such as an Arabian with five or more green/gold stats listed on it. These do well in the level 1 and 2 shows without training. There is a player who will give a new player one trained horse for a dollar. It's listed under general chitchat. On choosing a breed, decide what you want to do with the horse ingame. Then pick a breed based on that.
On training a horse yourself, until you complete several training courses in training, you will not get very far. So, until you get the money making down I wouldnt bother with training at this time. I'll list some starter tips for you.

Don't buy up a bunch of horses. Pick two decent horses for cheap and work with them. Upgrade only number of horses you can have until you can have at least ten. Don't spend a lot of money buying up barns and pastures. Buy them as you need them over time. Use a horse in level one local shows to make money and to level up. The first 5 levels are easy to get and you get money and pony tokens for them.
Save the pony tokens for getting premium. this gives you more turns at a time, lower turn regeneration, and the ability to look at the comfirmation of the horse.
there are all kinds of horses for sale in the market for cheap, dont go out and pay 50,000 for untrained horses. Also, don't buy horses that have less than 700% training until you can train them yourself.

The other ways to make money are to mow your pastures, which give money but take up time that you can enter a local show. The other way to make money is to save up money and buy a horse that is trained or get it trained and enter it into competitions that it is suited for.
Also, read the information available in the knowledge section of the forum.
