I never were premium, but I haven't missed it. So I agree with BlackOak as well.
Though I can also understand the hesitation from (younger?) players if they think their questions are embarassing but to that I'd say we all were at that point and the comunity here is so nice that I don't see the need for that private chats - and it prevents the spread of false information (even if it wasn't for malicous reasons but not knowing it right themselfs)

We don't, but - and not everyone looks into every post that was made so most people wouldn't even see it, and when you make a topic where you write pinging xyz in the name most won't look because it doesn't concern them... - what would you even have to ask in this game that is so embarassing that someone would jugde you for it? we are all sensible people and have asked questions that seemed mighty stupid in hindsight -.-' so where is the problem?

I think, point in that private messages is not really a feature wich will be so importnant to somebody to pay for it.
So it has no sence to make it as privellegy for vips.
For me, it's not hard to get VIP and get pm, but it is may me sad, that such a simple thing, should be payed.
It's just ... you know, could make develpment of the game slowely, because of the people, who want to connect for the team, but do not want to use the forum and wants to make it privately. In browser game with peoples it's important to let them communicate.I'm sure, there enough features wich very important to get for the VIP, without private messages.
This is a very simple thing. As I see, developers did not have a huge experianse in games, that's why they could make HW very unusual game, but making communication between gamers that way (only forums for non VIPS) - it's not the best desition.

I'm another for keeping PMs for VIP only for many of the same reasons Black Oak has stated.

I've played many games, and not being bugged constantly by younger players in my in box is nice. Also not getting spammed by players just creating an account to send ads is awesome as well. You might be surprise by the ways people think up to disrupt someones unwind time.

Take into consideration, if there is an unsavory post, the developers have many more eyes that can catch it fast before younger members might accidentally read it. Also, it cuts down on people using the game as a dating site and/or giving away to much in the way of sensitive information. Kind of a neighborhood watch sort of thing.

If you want to communicate 'privately' you can always use the private channel in chat, once you gain the required requisites to use chat, of course.
