Horses like this in real life?

I know this site bases as much of its portrayals of horses on real-life as possible, but there are still things that show up now and again that make me wonder if there are real-world equivalents out there--especially with some of the markings and body-shapes that I've seen on here. Outside of this site, I actually know very little about the horse world, and my google skills can only get me so far...

My first question is about this girl here, namely her tail.




I know this striped, sort of raccoon-tail effect in the hair is probably supposed to represent the way that different colored hair can hang at different lengths along the tail or something, but it makes me wonder if there are any horses that actually look like that. Maybe a completely different effect is happening here, and it's just one that I'm not familiar with? But my assumption is that her tail has an area that is covered by couple of white spots and the rest is self-colored and the hair is hanging at different lengths, and not that the individual hairs are both black and white as they're hanging there.

I hope that makes sense, and I would love to know if this is a visual effect that actually happens in real life! And after that, maybe I'll ask about "hotdog" horses...

i have never seen a horse particularly like that but i have seen some paint horses where the tail is split in half

So far, that's all that my googling has turned up as well, along with a few leopard horses with vertical stripes instead.

And really, that's what I thought this girl's tail was going to end up like... until it grew another stripe... and then another... lol

I have never seen a horse in the game that has a tail that is 2 different colors and i have never seen a horse that has at striped tail. But, I guess that just proves the old saying "you learn something new every day"

I actually have a few horses like that, although not as defined as the one you have pictured above... never really thought anything of it, although it does look v cute, especially on the horses that have the more obvious layering
