Economics: how can we help?

Post by Mythical Trainer »

I just want to say I really love this game. I wont go into why, we all know. I just ask we all think for a minute about a major influence on what Keeps a game great. that's the economy. I know its hard for new players to earn money, I am a new player, but that's actually a Good thing. it reflects on what horses are worth. what play time is worth. and this is important.. how long a period if time playing this game is actually fun. yes you have to work hard at first. but that's what makes you proud of your farm. yes we make mistakes. but that's because there is so much to learn.

little background, I use to play eden eventing. I loved playing it because I admired the programming at the time, and I love being rewarded for a job well done. why did I quit playing? I developed a strategy that got me a lot of money, a lot of horses, and used the programming of pasture breeding to get high quality horses without even playing. in short I wasnt working at it anymore. the programming was too simple. I would log in every three months to sort horses and put culls up for sale. in short it was boring. I wasn't having fun anymore. I enjoyed being dirt poor and training horses all day for just a little profit and dreaming of when I'd make it big. I was proud when I could afford higher quality horses. when I did "make it big" I quit.

this is not a help me get started thread. this is a lets help the game thread. what can we do to make enjoyable play time last longer? what can we do to help new players feel appreciated? what kind of "money dump" would we like to see for players that made it and arent having fun anymore? maybe this should have been placed in suggestions..

the people here are very friendly and helpful and a good community.. but I see people throwing away their time tallen and money for less than what I think its worth. this will hurt the economy and make it worse for new players in times to come. a new player shouldnt be rich, they should be the cheap, just beginning to make a name for themselves people.. already "big time trainers" are the only ones who can get a job here. no one pays new trainers at all. this is a bad sign for the whole game. maybe I'm wrong.. maybe I dont understand the game well enough yet. maybe what we really need is more demand for trained horses.

I dont have the answers. but if we work together maybe we can find them as a community. lets make this a better place, for everyone.

Well said. I'm kind of young myself, so I get it. The pride of breeding and raising, not just purchasing, your first champion is priceless. I do find that new players are very eager to impress and do an awesome job training. Give them a chance! They are usually willing to work hard.

I think the real problem with training not getting paid is there isn't enough demand for trained horses. I don't know what to do about this though. I already learned I only really need one "money making" trained horse for a whole account. I just already see that something needs to be done to fix the balance.

What do you consider a new trainer? The reason alot of people don't just hand over a horse to a newer player is because once you sell a horse, you lose all rights to the horse. The trainer has to build a reputation for being trustworthy to return the horses after they are trained. Another issue is that newer trainers usually aren't able to fully train a horse, the training takes days or weeks, or both. This is not an easy game to play, it takes time to build up your farm. The advice I give is to improve your training skills until you are able to train a horse to at least 790% or 95% in all stats from newborn in under 5 game years. This means that you start with a newborn and finish training it before it turns 5 years old.

There is a large demand for trained horses, there just aren't very many known trainers, who train for a low price because of the issues that we have to deal with.
