Strange for a Thoroughbred?
Hi! So I just bred my Thoroughbred mare to an average height stallion, and she gave birth to a foal that was 34 inches. Is this normal? Does anyone have any ideas of what height she might be when she grow up?

Looks like you caught some short genesJockey

It's all normal genetics, you'll just have a shorty tb. With my racers, foals that are born around 30 inches end up averaging 13hh

Re: Strange for a Thoroughbred?
34 inches is an alright height for your 'average' horse. She should max out somewhere just over 14 hands, give or take a few points. I'd figure 14.2, 14.3, something like that. There is a little give and take in born versus full height, but not much. I wouldn't expect your filly to break 15 hands.Jockey wrote:Hi! Don’t worry it’s perfectly normal for some mares. For me it’s one of my mares that carries that gene.
Her foals aren’t necessarily small though because I breed her to 16.5hh +.
Your foals with probably average about 13hh when their older which is a little small for TBs but that doesn’t mean they’ll under perform.
