Confusing Shades of Dun
I feel like usually I'm more on top of genotype/phenotype, but I've been working in rabbits IRL for so long now, I've gotten all confused.
Anyway, while I'm trying to get rid of dun in my Exmoors eventually (hooray for future bay and brown pangare), my current stock is full of dun. I'm almost done with dun.
At the moment I'm kind of confused? As far as I was aware, buckskin and dun are usually only told apart by lack of primitive markings. Duns in game are much, much closer to bay. So I've been calling them "bay duns" in Tarpans and similar. I was, however, calling my Przewalski Horses "zebra duns" because of their more traditional look. Is there a genetic difference, or just phenotype?
Also here are the horses that are driving me up the wall. Are they all the same phenotype or do they have different genotypes? At this point I can barely tell. Whoops.
Here's Francine. Clearly bay-based dun, but has a gray cast to her coat and brownish primitive markings.

Uhura looks similar to Francine, except her primitive markings are dark brown, nearly black, and she has tan-brown shading on her face and under belly. Her legs have reverse striping.

Tiana is much, much grayer than the prior two, looking almost silvery grulla or brown grulla. She also has a dark face and underbelly and reverse striping on the legs like Uhura, except her "stockings" are only black around the hoof and look blackish-gray up to similarly-colored over-the-knee striping.

The last female is Sparkly Shotgun. She is far different than the prior three with more Przewalski vs Tarpan coloration. She is bright peachy-orange with tan primitive markings. Reverse striping on the feet. Black markings on muzzle and legs under the knee.

Finally we have one stallion, 29 Years. I'm assuming he is a dunskin pangare. His mane and tail are dark brown, his coat is buttery yellow fading to white, and his black markings on his muzzle and legs are minimal. His legs are patchy black-white-gray. You can barely see his orange-yellow dorsal stripe.

Re: Confusing Shades of Dun
Buckskin and Dun are two completely different things, genetically. Buckskin is a bay with a single cream gene, dun is it's own separate gene.
All of the horses you listed are bay duns, save the last one who is dunskin. They're are variances in base coat shades; przewalksis are the lightest shades of bay (with pangare and dun) and tarpans are the darkest shades (overwhelming with dun, but occasionally without iirc). They're are genes in-game which also determine the degree of dilution in the body coat, hence your "grey cast."
Don't overthink it
