(Solved!) A buttery possibly dun ????
I adopted a North African Barb who is sort of a buttery grey with bay markings (black legs, mane, and tail). His ears are black-tipped and some coat colour leaks into his tail so I'm wondering what colour is he and is he dun? Or is he just sooty buckskin?

He looks to me to be a sooty buckskin.Zalarisa wrote:I adopted a North African Barb who is sort of a buttery grey with bay markings (black legs, mane, and tail). Re: A buttery possibly dun ????
He looks really pale, so it could be that he is a bay with cream and dun, somethimes refered to as a "Dunskin" (Buckskin+Dun), or he is "just" a Buckskin with roan (the whitening is caused by little white hairs in the coat rather than a overall lighter shade - I can't see it from the photo) and the shaded places are definitly a result of sooty ^^ So he could be (depending if hes dun or roan):Zalarisa wrote:I adopted a North African Barb who is sort of a buttery grey with bay markings (black legs, mane, and tail). 1. Sooty Buckskin Roan (E_ A_ Rn_ Sty_)
2. Sooty Buckskin Dun (E_ A_ D_ Sty_) (_ means the second allele is unknown and could be E or e; A, At or a; D or d; Rn or n; Sty or n)
I hope that helps

Rosecreekstablesfarm and Nazarach for your answers!!
Here are some more pictures if that helps ^_^
(I seem to have lopped off the dark tips of his ears in this one... )
I just noticed, it seems he has some stray hairs

Oh, yeah, he is definitly a roan - you see those little white slashes/hairs? Those signify roan ^^Zalarisa wrote:Rosecreekstablesfarm and Nazarach for your answers!!

in comparison a dun would look more even, i can only show with blacks, so look at the gallery if you are interested:
The roan
The Dun

Re: A buttery possibly dun ????
Thanks a bunch for helping me out with him! I understand some colours but when we start getting to cream, champagne, and "tiger eye" I start getting lost. (Not roan anymore thanks to your help
)
(I also noticed, from the roan/dun comparison, that the roan's face is more dark than the dun's.)
