It's funny isn't it?Stormchase Stables wrote: Thank you. I was confused because of the Explorer's dapples, all of Sugar-Glazed's other foals don't seem to have it, and they all have the same sire. http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/1245479 this is one of her daughters. She's much darker than her parents and siblings, so I thought that she somehow inherited her grandsire's color http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/1228101
But then Sugar-Glazed thre this foal: http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/1248222
Whose color resembles Classic Champagne. I can't trace it to any horse in her lineage, except this guy http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/1024941 but he's like her great-great-great-great-great-great grandsire.
How can two light-colored horses throw a filly like her?
Them throwing such a 'dark' filly, just proves that each of her parents only carry one cream gene.
What's more, a single base color can move a great deal through it's own color spectrum from decently bright (or light) to decently dark, then add on top of that any sooty they may have.
So, saying that she 'inherited' her grandsire's coloration wouldn't be wrong. Her genetics mapped together in the same way that his did.
Blue eyes would be two creams, so if any of the foals start growing up and keep their blue eyes, then you'll have a double cream champagne (also known as tri-dilute).
She certainly looks like a gold cream (chestnut based): http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/1245479
He appears to be flaxen gold champagne with roan (and snowflakes): http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/1228101
I would say this one is a classic champagne (no silver or cream) with snowflakes (Lp varnish will silver or gray the mane and tail) but I could be wrong: http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/1248222
I like looking at dilutes, but they are difficult to figure out way too often.

When you've been working on a line of horses without any newly added blood and you think that they're all homozygous for dun and silver (since you've been producing these two specific genes for many, many generations) and you suddenly produce a non-dun offspring...

And realize that he's also missing the pangare that occasionally pops up, the flaxen and the very often singularly bright chestnuts that this line has come to be known for.
But still such a remarkably dark color for a chestnut. Sometimes it's those odd-ones-out that make you smile.

Tiger Eye Gold Dun

I must admit that I adore this stallion's colour. However, his shoulders are too upright and this point of shoulder too high for me to use for breeding. Although I am trying to get other horses like this - with better shoulders and pronounced primitive markings, of course!

All of these genes coming together can offer some very interesting outcomes... Words I've said often enough about this game. Sometimes in slightly more frustrating circumstances, but most often because it's a nice (although surprising) outcome.
This particular mare started out carrying a color that this bloodline has become known for. But with a strong and progressive sooty appearance, she has went from being quite brightly colored, to well on her way toward becoming a psuedo-black.

I am interested to see how far she'll darken.

Really, I'm posting this so that absolute favorites don't get lost. Too many times I think back on one (either my own or somebody else's), where was that one I saw? It happens often and I no longer want to do it myself.
Gorgeous horse

Very happy to say that a lot of my herd is picking up on these specific genes, so I'm getting a lot more like him as the generations pass by.

I haven't opened the leopard tarpans yet to the public. But I'm willing to breed you one. I'll take a look at my stock and find something that should work and let you know when an appropriate foal is born.vallers wrote:

As for price: price it as you would pay for it on the open market (I'm good on funds). I only ask that you don't share the (colt) or (filly) directly with another, after all, my project hasn't been completed yet.
Will that work for you?
