Until registries are in place the Breeding Communities forum will be for players to work together towards creating or improving their favourite breeds.
Forum rules
Each breed may have only one topic. The first post in the topic is to be informative. It should help explain the breed, and breeding goals; advice on how to select mares and stallions; and links to ideal Stallions available for breeding.
Keeping a directory of breeders working on the same goal is also helpful.
All new threads must be approved.

Abyssinian

Post by Lanthe »

Information of the Breed:

The Abyssinian horse is also known as the Gala, Oromo Horse, or Ethiopian Horse. It is one of the oldest horse breeds on record. The breed originated in the dry regions of Ethiopia and spread along the Red Sea. The Abyssinian horse is considered a light horse breed. It stands on average 13.3 hands. The common colors are brown, chestnut, grey, and white. The Abyssinian horse is a working horse. The Abyssinian horses can work for longer hours with minimum food. The history of the Abyssinian horses tells us that these horses are mostly used in the hilly and mountain areas.

The Goal:

To breed Abyssinian horses that are not only strong but fast. A horse that can race and do heavy work.

I only just signed up today, but I'm interested in breeding Abyssian horses. I have a North African Barb mare called Clandestine Shadow, and she's super pretty and black and already fits the breed standard (fits Abyssian better than N.A Barb even...).

I was wondering if you offer any Abyssian stallions for stud, and if so what your stud fees are like?
Also I did a little training and such with her (first in game day and all), would you recommend spending more time training/competing before breeding?

*edit* I'm a nong. I just found the 'Stallions for Stud' page, and you have a stallion up there! Duh. :)

*edit 2* I don't know what the policy is on double posting, so I'm just editing again.

I've been researching real life abyssinians to get hints on area's I should focus my breeding. Here's some of the things I discovered:
- Primary traits are: Strength, Stamina, Agility (Strength is going to be hard to find cos neither arabs nor NAB's are strong.)
- Green eyes (ie Tiger Eyes) are common
- Most colours are available but the most common are: Black, dun, buckskin, palomino, perlino, cremello, roan, champagne, grullo, and brown EDIT 3: The website I got those colours from seems to have been wrong. everywhere else quotes the same colours you did.

Abyssinian Stud

Post by kidhedera »

I have purchased an attractive cremello Abyssinian stallion and put him up for stud. You can find him here:
http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/65464

I also successfully bred my first Abyssinian's:
Aralia's Hide and Seek: http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/76490 (Bay Filly)
Bramble's Buck: http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/77247 (Buckskin Colt)
Aralia's Bright Prospects http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/77313 (Classic Champagne Filly)

Bramble's Buck will go up for stud once he's old enough. He's also unrelated to the girls, so he'll be able to sire one foal by each of them. I'll probably sell him after that though, because the world doesn't really need more Abyssinian's with red strength stats. *sigh*

Also, in case your interested the horse that was the product of my Dark Aralia, and your Time Warp is here: http://www.horseworldonline.net/farm/pasture/5137

He's very pretty, and ok in competitions, but not really of much use to me, so I'm selling him.

Breed update!
- I sold First Snow, and his new owner hasn't put him up for stud, so my last post is well out of date now.
- I now own 13 Abyssinians, not counting ones I've sold or put up for sale.

Studs:

Lierre's Jasper
$500
Bay, no red stats
This stallion is essentially a new blood line being entirely unrelated to the Abby Loo line, and also Dark Aralia, my foundation mare.

Aralia's Winter Games
$250
Black, no red stats
This fellow is very handsome. He is cheaper than Lierre's Jasper though

Brood Mares:
Contact me if you have a stallion (of any breed!) you wish to cover these mares. I'll sell you the foal for a negotiable price. On the off chance the horse has twins (I hear thats possible), we take one each, and I charge you only 10% of the original price.

Aralia's Hide and Seek
$1000
Bay, no red stats.
Currently top ranked Abyssinian in game. (435 points)
She is ranked 15th out of mares of all breeds for Endurance.

My biggest challenge at the moment is finding quality stallions to cover my mares, so if you have an Abyssinian stallion with no red stats, please put him up for stud and list him here. Thanks!

All my Abyssinians are now for sale. I've decided to work on a different project for a while.
If you are interested, they are going for $1 here and here.
