Returning: Black Oak Farms

Post by BlackOak2 »

Sorry I've been away for awhile!

My pc decided to finally give up the ghost. I was quite a bit frustrated with the problem, so I ignored it for a time before attending to it.

Now, I've returned.
Just wanted to let the community know!

Yay! What do you breed?
Leopard tarpans (closed bloodlines).
Low GP Project (not yet ready for purchase or public breedings).
Dauntless Project (a project researching and producing easy keepers).

For more information on these, feel free to check out in-depth information on my log (it's long).

I don't have room to start additional projects right now, but I may be able to offer some help in a specific spot now and again.

The closest project I have to probably being opened to the public is probably the leopard tarpans, which would most likely fit in with your alternate projects. But they're not yet ready.

Did you have a specific help you wanted?

Yes, I want to breed a lepord with http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/1248545. Do you have a 'gal I could use to try? It would be so funny!

Give me a couple more minutes, I'm looking into this, now.

I don't have any open blood from my leopard tarpans at the moment. Also, apparently I got rid of the leopard horses that I did have outside of the tarpans.

Since you're looking for a leopard to breed to Champ, a very nice looking tiger-eyed black dun, I did cruise the market for a mare that I might cross with him. For your knowledge, he may very well be a double black.

These are the ones I found (if the prices are more than you'd willingly pay, I can purchase any (or multiple) for you and sell them to you for 100 apiece.

This mare is my number 1 pick. She is a silver dapple (so black with the silver gene) plus a very nice spread of leopard complex. This will help to identify what your stud may be hiding with his own complex genes. This match, for making a beautiful foal will give you a black offspring (unless both parents carry one red gene and both through it) with nice markings. However, your foal will only have a 25% chance of being spotted. It may take a few breedings to get that spotted foal.

This mare is a chestnut based (I think) with champagne. Your chances for throwing a black foal drops to 25% (if your stud carries only one black gene). Plus again, your chance for throwing a spotted foal is only 25%. That being said, if the champagne gene is passed on, coupled with the black gene and the spotted gene (remember that the spot coverage will most likely be much less than what this dam offers), will still make a beautiful foal. Plus the tiger eye gene will always show with the champagne gene.

This mare is a bay-based roan with pangare (I'm almost certain) and dun. If the roan is thrown onto a black-based foal, it becomes a blue roan. This match should make a striking foal as well. Don't expect too much leopard however. Considering the butt-and-back-leg-blanket the mare has and the unknown status of your stud, it's entirely possible for the foal to have nothing but a bit of hip coverage.

This mare is red based. She is guaranteed to throw a leopard foal, but because she's red, the genes for the black-linked spots may be quite different and cover far, far less. However, in my experience thus far, the hidden-by-red, black leopard genes should cover at least half of the foals body.

Here is another red based mare. The same goes for this one as the one directly above, she, too, is guaranteed to throw a spotted foal. Either of these could be quite nice partners for your stud and throw some very eye-catching foals. That being said, this mare (unlike the one above), has a chance of throwing striking eyes as well, just like your stud (unless on the off chance the mare just above is hiding a single tiger gene).

This mare is also guaranteed to throw a spotted offspring. My guess however, is not much of one. Although this mare has some nice colors, she isn't a favorite of mine and in my opinion will offer a not-much-but-still-spotted foal. She does have pangare on a bay base, but I don't believe that's silver in her mane, rather it's the varnish from the leopard complex. Still, an offspring from this match may be quite striking, thus I offer her as a possible partner because I might take a chance on this match as well.

This mare (I think the oldest of any of these), offers a lot of striking genes that should always throw striking foals when paired with the right stud. She only carries one of each, so with your stud, I'd say about half will be 'striking' and the other half 'less-than'. That being said, if the resulting foal does inherit all of these (roan, feathers, leopard, dun) on either a black or agouti (bay) based coat, it should still be quite the looker.
------
These last couple of mares I offer for this reason: if the resulting foal pulls in the genes that these mares offer than the foals are paired back to an Lp carrier (like the above mares), the resulting foal should again have striking looks.
