Remove the auto-run of non-recurring competitions

Post by Totina »

As the title says, I think the auto-run of non-recurring competitions should be removed. Any non-recurring competition that reaches 20 competitors is automatically run immediately at this point and I think that is a bit problematic for several reasons:

1. It makes it very easy to cheat with competition points for both horses and players. Anyone can create hundreds of competitions each day to enter 20 of their own horses in to make them run immediately. This will give this one player extremely high amounts of points in an unfair way, boosting their place in the rankings and the same goes for horses. If you enter one trained horse and let it compete against 19 or more of your own untrained horses this horse's rank will be boosted even if it is a horse that otherwise would not hold up in a fair competition against other well-trained and skilled horses.
In my opinion, the ranking lists should be filled up with the best horses and the most dedicated players in the game, not the ones that take advantage of the system to farm points for themselves.

2. I would also like to be able to create single event competitions that allow for more than 20 competitors. Currently on my other account I am running non-recurring competitions with high amounts of money in the starting purse. These competitions usually get filled up very quickly and run automatically as soon as they reach 20 competitors. I would like these competitions to stay open for entries for longer than it takes for them to fill up, since the amount of money I put into them is obviously making them very popular.

3. Related to the point I just described with my second account I had similar problems when I was hosting a series of competitions 1½ years ago (one that I announced in the forums which also gave birth to the Contests section). I could not host these on my second account because of this auto-run problem. Even though the different competitions would be a one-time event for each discipline I had to make them recurring in order to allow for more than 20 competitors.
Non-upgraded players would not be able to host similar competitions at all since any competition they would announce will run as soon as 20 competitors have entered.

No support. Most of us oldhats use the non-recurring auto-running shows to performance test our horses so our breeding programs can progress. If some sort of alternative was offered which does not give out points -- which has been suggested long ago -- then I would change my mind. As his, however, removing autoshows would crash performance-focused programs.

1) The bigger problem is players who drop a horse on a spare account and continue to show it indefinitely, never allowing the horse to age out and retire, and artificially inflating its points and theirs by showing it for months (years?) on end. Both issues would be solved with an energy tax on shows.

2) You could run a recurring show once a week or once a month....

3) I see no issue in this difference in privileges between upgraded and not.
