Part breeds and Baladi
Hey guys! I'm working on breeding for Thoroughbreds, and in that process, I'm ending up with a ton of Part Tarpans and Part Barbs!. Can I breed Tarpan/Mongolian/Tarpan/WABs with each other for a chance of breeding a Sorraia? I also have accidentally bred a Baladi, can a Baladi be used in place of a NAB X Arabian?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Part breeds and Baladi
To get a breed you need to follow the exact breeding recipe. For Sorraia it's;
[Tarpan x Mongolian] x [Tarpan x WAB]
This means you HAVE to breed a Tarpan x Mongolian horse with a Tarpan x West African Barb horse. You can't mix them up, like, say, breed a Tarpan with a Mongolian x WAB. That won't work.
And to get a crossbred with two breeds (like Tarpan x WAB) the parents need to be a pure version of the breeds, so they can't be for example Part Tarpan and Mixed WAB.
And no, Baladi is not the same as [Arabian x NAB] :)

Yes, you can breed a Tarpan/Mongolian to a Tarpan/WAB for a Sorraia as long as each of them actually say Tarpan/Mongolian or Tarpan/WAB. You can't use a half Tarpan unless it's to breed to a Mongolian or WAB for a foal that actually says Tarpan/Mongolian or Tarpan/WAB. You also may not use a Baladi in place of an NAB x Arabian. Sorry

Signature? I don't need no stinkin' signature! Everybody knows who I am already!

Thanks guys! And just to clarify, there isn't much breeding use for the Tarpan/Mongolian/Tarpan/WAB crosses (like this guy: http://www.horseworldonline.net/farm/pasture/1054) that did not come out as Sorraias?

Re: Part breeds and Baladi
I assume you already rehomed him, but I also assume he was a half Tarpan. A half Tarpan can be used for all the same things as a full tarpan. You could have take him, bred him to a WAB or Mongolian, for another mix for Sorraia, and proceeded that way. Even being a failed Sorraia himself, he could have had Sorraia grandfoals if you so chose to go down that path.Morgan wrote:Thanks guys! Thanks for the help

Re: Part breeds and Baladi
So, for the intellectually challenged people here (me):
I have a horse that's "Part A x B". Can I use him for a recipe that calls for "A x B"?

Simply, yes. Mixed and Half A will also work.
