Make names unchangeble

Post by FameDaLupa »

Hi there

I just got a little frustrated, because part of the fun playing games like this is to breed and to sell the horses to others.
And its a joy to find a horse again you have bred in someone elses pedigree or in the hole game in general.
Breeding is a chance to create a own bloodline and a reputation. So you can actually also see the work you have done and be proud.
But its just no fun at all, if you sell a horse and the new owner just chances that name.
Then the traces of the work is gone. Its not about to beeing vain or something.
I know that there is a little note about the original breeder, but thats it.

I am breeding arabians and all their names start with: Al Khamsa
And they end with: ox
And the FdL stands for Fame Da Lupa
Those who have a little knowledge about arabians will understand.

This is just really important for me, this is part of the fun.
And I am not alone of course. Someone sold me a horse and asked me to please keep the name and i could really understand that.
Now if I sell horses I dont want to start a disscusion again and again with a new owner and beg so they keep the names.

I therefore want to suggest for the future to make the names unchangeble.
Its possible, I played another game like that and i felt very good. You could change names in emergency through the support and help, in case of unappropiate names etc.

It also might motivate people to give their horses proper names instead of: Unnamed Horse 4654131345 or HGP 66,572 for example, which is good for a better athmosphaere in the game.

I would really appriciate that. Right now I just proudly sold my first selfbred mare and the new owner changed the name. Now I am really unmotivated to sell another horse of my work.

Well, I am sorry in advanced for some mistakes with my writing. I am not a native english speaker. So pls bare with me^^

Okay, Thank you and hopefully I will find some like-minded people.

Enjoy playing, kind regards

Depends on the person, personally I don't care if my name or prefix changes if I sell horse. I'd rather it be changed if I didn't already do it, and I'd prefer that people didn't add my prefix to horses they bought from me, I didn't add it for a reason. But the fact is, if you sell a horse you lose all rights to that horse.

Now, if your concerned about finding a horse again, you can always use the farm log. If you don't like that, then the simple solution is don't sell your horses.

I often change the names and prefix because it helps, when I'm working with over 100 horses on my breeding ranch.

<<MFI>> tells me, I own or owned (rolled into retirement) the horse but didn't breed it. Tells me exactly where I purchase a horse and my line began.
MFI tells me I bred it and probably still own it

if the breed is between the prefix and gender symbol, that is the breed I'm wanting to use that horse for (its not an event horse)
If their is actually a name in there that means the horse is going to be used as an event horse
an unnamed horse is one I'm undecided about

When I take a horse into training, I'm also breeding...this method prevents me from accidentally breeding a clients horse

So, everyone has their own method.

Like baranduin brewster said, once you sell a horse you loose all rights to the horse and it's name. From what I understand the admins may add a horse registry for horses that are competed and have a competition record. I personally don't use a brand at all. Most of the time I don't even name my horses. If you don't want people to change the name of the horse then talk to them before hand and sell the horse using private sells so you control who buys the horse.

Okay, thanks for the quick responses. I will just accept it that way:) And appearently there are a few things I didnt know ----> <<MFI>>,farm log etc.

But I have another question. Will the horse names in the pedigree change if someone changes their name? Probably....?

Thx

Yes, it does change in the pedigree

And I was using <<MFI>> to give examples why I change the prefix (not everyone utilizes that system). Many players get very upset that thinking your trying to take credit by renaming/adding your prefix a horse.

I do agree with Vallers, if you are going to ask for the prefix/name to stay, then you need to sell privately. If I go out and spend $30 million in the marketplace, I will get upset if the breeder comes along and tells me I have to replace their Prefix/name.

Alright, nevermind. I would have loved it if the names could just stay the way the breeder decided and I see a lot of advantages in that and it just upsets me if I cant get creative with the names and the pedigree - or I just have to keep all my horses, well...
But I see where you are coming from and that this game just works differently.
It is still a great joy to play it and maybe one or two will do me the favor to keep the prefix.

Thanks, and enjoy playing

I share your same sentiments about the names too. I love coming up with creative names based on their pedigrees and "famous" horses back in their lineage, and from my own founding horses. It is frustrating when I come up with one of those names and then the new owner just changes it to "Angel" or "Jack" or something, and my pedigrees just look silly and uninformative. I also really enjoy selling my horses when I am done with them to see what other players can do with them, so it is a toss up of pros and cons :? One of my favorite breeders stopped selling her horses because of this name issue, and it is pretty disappointing. I can understand why some players have the opposite view point though.

I think there should be some way to add a sort of branding to horses that you've bred, like an unchangeable affix or something of the sort. I put ίE in front of the names of the horses I've bred. If there would be a way to make that permanent, unless the original breeder removes it, that would be cool.

Yeah, thats the only one compromise I can imagine as well. Cos ppl could still name their horeses 2/4 68 or Jack and Angel ( thats exactly what i meant @ skray) but the prefix stays. I am sure that wont be at the top of the list for a long time, but if there will be time somewhen, maybe it can be worked out somehow.
Thanks for parciptation(?)

All best
