Tutorial Stuck?
- I'm following along the tutorial and doing as it says, but I've run into a problem. The tutorial won't proceed to the next part! I'm stuck on "Study First Course."
Tutorial: Study First Course
Now that you are getting the hang of caring for your horse you can get ready to own another one. To own more than one horse you're going to need to study the horse management skill courses. Click on Player, then Skills, then Horse Ownership to find the first course called "Basic Horse Ownership I". Click on "Begin Course".
Objective: Begin studying "Basic Horse Management I, Level 1"
I've done what it's asked and my Basic Horse Ownership skill is at a 2 I believe? But it won't proceed, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong?!

Re: Tutorial Stuck?
- Oh! Not sure what I did but I was checking out all the different buttons to the left and seeing where they took me, and I guess it fixed the tutorial! Because I went somewhere, and looked at the top and the tutorial has progressed.

You may find this guide helpful as well, Quick Start Guide Fore Newbies, it's found in the help guides section.
Near the bottom it has a section dedicated to regularly seen 'bugs' you may come across and how to fix them (or at least what's going on), including how to get the tutorial 'unstuck'.

- Oh, thank you!! That's very helpful. Do you have any other tips for someone just starting out? Or any other helpful links? :)

Re: Tutorial Stuck?
For training the guide is located also in the help guides section ~DWM~ Horse Training Guide, even as a beginner, this guide will have your horse trained by you in about 6 years. As you progress with your player skills for training, this will quickly drop to 4 years and under.Xocea wrote:

Bread and butter money will be your local shows. For this I could suggest you find a higher GP (genetic potential) horse from the market for 'pennies on the dollar', don't waste 25k on a horse, just pick one up for a couple thousand or less. Sometimes you'll find a fully trained horse for under 10k. If it's also under 15 years, it may be worth the money.
This game is built in such a way that there are a LOT of hidden genes some, of which that also contribute to how the horse performs in competitions. There are horses with comparatively lower HGP (horse genetic potential, that's the same as GP or genetic potential), around 45000 that can beat much higher GP horses. How do we tell the difference? It's all about the heart. If a horse enters a lot of player made competitions (of appropriate levels) and pulls a couple firsts, a couple seconds and a couple thirds, then you look at another relatively similar horse that for some reason is pulling mostly firsts and a couple seconds in similar player made competitions (of appropriate levels). The second horse can be considered as having a good or a strong 'competition heart'. What does this mean, other than being a little better in competitions? First, that the horse will level out of the lower level, player-made competitions and will have only higher level competitions available to it, but, that this horse can and may pass these genes on to their offspring.
If you choose to breed for strong competition horses, you will be looking for this. If not and you're not sure if the horse is appropriate for your bread and butter money earnings, look at the horse's parents competition scores. There are a few of us that sell horses from competition parents at lower prices to help boost new players.
Next. Take your time trying to figure out what niche you want to breed into. What you want to do in the game. There are a lot of little projects out there to get your feet wet in the game. The low GP project is involved and more than a couple of us are trying to get that all-important horse with an HGP lower than 11000 points. Thus far (with over a year of real time breeding), none of us has produced one.
Third (I think). Horses won't die from being underweight or obese. Nor will mares die when pregnant. So if you find yourself low on funds, just don't feed your horses for awhile. You can actually play the game right now using no money (assuming you don't purchase horses, feed, decorations, farm building items or skills).
When you get a bit 'wetter' in the game, check out Seina's Extensive User Guide. It has more of the in's and out's.
If you get stuck, our help guides section has most, or possibly all of your answers already posted. If not, you can certainly try running a short search in the help questions section. If the answer isn't immediately visible, we can certainly answer most of your questions (some we may not know, especially if it's a bug).
What else?
Breeding new breeds. Keep in mind that even if you use five star parents for the new breed recipe, this only gives you a chance of creating the new breed. Keep trying. Five star parents are parents that evaluate for the new breed.
Following that, even if you have just one book for evaluating, you will have to choose it to evaluate the horse (the system isn't smart enough to realize that ONE book is the one you want to evaluate from).
I think most of the rest is covered by the guides I already offered.
If you get stuck with being unsure of what mini-project you want to get wet with, you can certainly ask the community. A lot of us have mini-projects that need doing from time to time and it's handy if we can get somebody else to do the task, especially if it helps learn the game, it works for both parties.
Welcome to the game, and enjoy!
