Obligatory "Get to Know You" Thread

Post by Delirium »

Hello, lovely people!

The title says it all. I feel like it'd be a good idea to introduce ourselves and start to cultivate a sense of community here! Also, I feel slightly guilty for not yet posting on the bug-catching threads. SO. I am Delirium. Please call me Deli! I'm a slightly neurotic (okay, way more than slightly) girl who's been crazy about horses since she (I?) learned to read. Since horseback-riding is more expensive than every other hobby except maybe yachting, I turned to SIMs to waste time and get my horsey fix. I have a Tumblr and a deviantART. Chemistry is the love of my life (impeccable grammar comes in close second). I'm Chinese and very short (4'11", or maybe even 5' on a good day/with heels).

I sometimes go by Poppy and MistySensation on other sites, in case I sound familiar to you. I'm not currently active on any SIMS since most of them now bore me, but I do occasionally log onto HorseIsle II. My username is Circean if any of y'all want to track me down or something.

So that's Deli in a nutshell! Any questions? Feel free to ask. I love talking about myself. c:

What about you guys?

Well, if it's obligatory...... :D

I've loved horses since I was a child and got one when I was thirteen. I currently have a 5 year old mustang gelding, one generation removed from the range. He was born in a domestic situation but had very little work done with him before I got him in August 2010, when he was 2. He haltered, led, and didn't intentionally do stupid stuff in those situations, but he'd been returned to the rescue a few separate times because his adopters couldn't catch him. Admittedly, he can still be very difficult to catch. Then I adopted him and he's been with me ever since. He rides now, but he's still quite green. I also haven't really pegged down a discipline for him, but he deeply enjoys trails and jumping and isn't a bad hand at cross country. He's also an agile freak.

I've been on HWO for....at least since 2006. I have very poor retrograde memory, but I know it's been at least that long. I'm a business student and I'll be going into some kind of finance area when I'm finished with school. If I don't figure it out before I graduate I'll just go be an accountant and call it good. As such I have the background to be able to poke around in virtual economies. Larissa and I designed this one specifically to disallow inflation and encourage money circulation. A lot of other games have economic problems that make them hard to play and not viable over the long term. Larissa and I hope to avoid that with this version of HWO.

I get being bored by other simulation games. Once you get past the initial stage of figuring things out, most of them are very repetitive and limited. They get boring and pointless real quick.

How did you come across HWO and get invited into the beta test?
Signature? I don't need no stinkin' signature! Everybody knows who I am already!

-Waves to everyone-

So I'm Hazel, and am completely new to HWO. I found it through Pro Sim Union, which is a fanastic community for simmers. I'm a horse sim veteran, and an admin and artist at Mystical Equine. I've bounced from sim to sim for years, and never quite found the in-depth realistic horse sim I've been seeking. Hopefully HWO will fill that hole. :]

Outside the online world, I'm an undergrad environmental studies student, with a minor in communication arts and an informal obession with technical theatre. I've ridden and been around horses for years, though that is currently on hold for money reasons and unhappiness with my school's program. I have no idea what I want to do with the rest of my life, but I do want it to include horses, renewable energy, and theatre design and tech. :D

So that's me in nutshell. ^^ I'm looking forward to getting to meet everyone and breaking lots of features in the name of testing and helping HWO be the best it can be.

I guess its my turn now :)
I'm Larissa. Hi! I've been horse crazy since as long as I can remember. I started riding in grade 2 or 3 I think so at least that long. I have not ridden in about 5 years since I was pregnant with my daughter. Now family and work keep me away from the barn but I have every intention of riding again. I get my horse fix from designing this game. I started designing games in 1997, this particular game was first launched as beta in 2004. Outside of the internet I work as a Marketing Coordinator/Graphic Designer/Web Developer for a hot tub manufacturer.
I'm looking forward to developing this game and this community with you all so welcome to my website :)

Oops. I totally forgot to reply to this. Nate, to answer your question, I found HWO by lurking on ProSimUnion, where Larissa was posting about her game. I did a little bit of research for her, and then when she announced that she wanted beta testers, I was like ZOMG must have.

I guess I should present myself as well, have been lurking around long enough and been to lazy to answer, shame on me.

Well, on HWO I'm mostly known as simply Macabo, my stable name, but my internet name usually are Rockylin, so you may have met me on other various sim sites.

I am living in Sweden and are studying Environmental science at the moment at university, and will hopefully be finished this summer, fingers crossed.

I have always been interested in animals and horses, and in the lack of a horse on my own, a various of horse games have always been a fun way to entertain myself and to get that instant horse fix. In a way, I am always looking around for that perfect horse game, may it be pc, console or sim based, I will try it out.

I have been following HWO's progress since the last version of the site, and played actively for quite some time, but lately I have been more inactive and patiently waiting for the new updates. So the excitement I have felt with the recently updates with the images and this knew beta-site, it really feels rewarding!

I can honestly say that HWO still is the best sim pet site I have ever played, even though it never have been completely finished, so I know it will be worth the wait, and I think people that are new to this project should be excited, for real. I'm also happy to see some famliar faces, Larissa obviously, but also Nate of course, and it's exciting to see new people joining us.

Other than horses, on my free time I do a lo of drawing and over all writing, hoping to ge to publish books in the future, and music, movies and series are a big part of my life. Nerd away!

It will be nice meeting you all, both old and new faces! :)

Okay, I'll go first!

I'm probably an old lady compared to most of you, turning 40 this year. I live somewhere I can't have horses right now so I like to live vicariously through horse games. I played a much older version of HWO years ago and I don't remember why I stopped, probably just ran out of hours in the day.

In my day job I'm a Marketing Analyst although I'm hoping to abandon that someday when I've established a career writing speculative fiction.

I probably should have taken the initiative to do this last night, but I'm afraid I was too excited by my ponies...

I'm guessing I might be towards the older user group, with the big 30 looming ahead, but I'm not letting that stop me! I've always been the little pony girl at heart, although so far life has been little reluctant to give me an opportunity to really get into riding.
I currently work in a Uni, and working on getting my Masters at the same time (though work situation is about to change leaving me time to devote to study and all the other things I never really had time for). I think I tried playing HWO way back when, but coming from a non-English speaking background I think the game was a little too much for my English capabilities at the time. Since then I've lived in Ireland and and now Australia, so that shouldn't be a problem anymore.
Since I'm based in the land-down-under, I'm roughly 12h ahead of the official game time.

Nice to meet you all!

Well, we've had a 40 year old, and a 30 year old, so I think it's appropriate that I go next ;)

I'm a 20 year old sophomore currently attending a university on the United States west coast, where I've grown up. I started riding horses as a child -- six year old or so -- and did so consistently for many years before taking my first break, and no I ride off and on. I haven't been on a horse in about two years at this point. I'm studying animal science for my undergraduate degree, as a foundation for pursuing veterinary medicine. My goal is to work as an equine theriogenologist (reproductive specialist), but I'll settle for companion animal work if I must. I've also developed an interest in food animals recently, so that's an option. My ever-decreasing list of hobbies currently consists primarily of social dancing at the moment, mainly Blues, East and West Coast Swing, and Fusion. I own a budgerigar who is three years old now, and I desperately want a dog (I plan on adopting a former racing greyhound), and eventually a horse (a Lipizzan).
