Become A Better Trainer - New Players Read!

Post by Retsi »

Hey there fellow Horse World Onliners!

As you may have noticed, there is a HUGE demand for trainers who can train past 98% while keeping the horse under 5 years of age. The only way to improve your training is by taking courses under the Player > Skills > Training area of your left panel. Do not take horses to train from other players unless you are certain you can meet their requests! There's millions to be made in the training business

Courses will become more costly as you advance. Pay for these courses by entering shows, and local shows. Selling foals will not be prosperous for you unless you breed something in high demand. Remember that you have a limited number of spaces and it can be very hard to sell horses. The market is filled with dollar horses. Try to save up!

I can currently train a horse to 99% in all stats by 2.5 years old. I got this far by being patient and taking courses!

The best way to train your horses in my opinion is to first train them to 95% in stamina. Once stamina is out of the way, your horse will be able to train way longer and will use much less energy. You can develop your own style of training though!

Remember that these are just suggestions. This may be helpful if you are looking to become a trainer.

Thank you so much! I am currently only able to train to 50% in 5 years, but this will help a lot!

Yes, taking the courses in training is extremely important, but there is more to it than just that. Spend as much time and effort as you can on the activities which earn Experience Points, because these are how you level up. They are: training your horse, entering local shows, advancing one day (thereby aging your farm and all the horses on it by 0.5 month), taking courses, fulfilling quests, and breeding your mare.

Some things which do not earn experience points, unless they are part of a quest, include sponsoring a show (class); purchasing anything from the Market, such as a horse or tack; posting a stallion for breeding; mowing a pasture; arranging your farm's appearance; or contributing to online discussions. When someone takes time to help you in the Forums, be grateful (even if we are showing off a bit). :geek:

Every time you level up, you get a Player point that you can assign to one of six Attributes: Charisma, Determination, Dexterity, Intelligence, Patience, or Perception. The more of these Attribute points your player character has in the relevant categories, the faster the player course will run in real time. For example, if you take the Energy Saver courses, they will run in less time the more points you have in Patience and Perception. I have seen this in operation while taking courses as one or the other of my characters.

:?: I suspect that player character level affects how effective the training is and how high a percentage it can reach. if anyone with inside knowledge can confirm or deny this -- or point to relevant existing game help / how to postings -- I'd greatly appreciate it.

Player Attributes and how they apply to courses:

Again, the six Player Attributes are: Charisma, Determination, Dexterity, Intelligence, Patience, and Perception.

This list should be part of the Help section, but the only place I know of is in the thread "Stamina Training" which appears in the section "Bugs and Errors"; it has 9 entries dated from November 3, 2016 to August 5th, 2017.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As I noted in another thread ("NEEDING A GOOD TRAINER WHO CAN FINISH TRAINING MY HORSES!"):
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Looking at [each of the 20 current as of 1/18/18] top ranked horses by points, the highest training levels I have seen have been achieved by Totina (note that she was one of the other players commenting in "Stamina Training").
Here are the levels for her stallion, ℬℳ Nature's Watch, top ranked by points (all breeds, genders, and disciplines):

Speed 100%
Strength 100%
Stamina 99.8%
Intelligence 100%
Movement 99.9%
Tempo 99.9%
Agility 100%
Balance 99.9%

That's probably as good as any trainer in this game gets at the moment; the other horses in the top 20 have no better than 99.something in all their stats. I think a great deal of it has to do with a trainer's level and [edited to add: -- while they were taking courses --] how they've chosen to distribute their points among the 6 Player character traits.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The reason for my opinion is this: although I have been in this game since late 2015, I play rather slowly and have not leveled up very often as either of my Player characters (Scythian or Xant’hippe). Therefore I haven't had many points to distribute to Player traits. Even though both characters have taken every course which it is possible to take, I cannot train any stat much past 99%, even if someone else began the training. It takes me years. I'm fairly good at making money with showing, so I have chosen to pay other trainers for a few of my better young horses. This has worked well for me, and I suggest it as a possibility to others.

By contrast, Totina is an Alpha Tester who has been in the game since 5/11/15, being online often as far as I know, and undoubtedly playing more rapidly and skillfully than I ever could. She may have fulfilled those "15 / 20 Attribute Points in [Charisma / Determination / Dexterity / Intelligence / Patience / Perception]" quests. This is written in sincere, wistful admiration -- and continuing thanks that she sold Golden Honor to me.

Undoubtedly there is money in Public Training IF you're good at it -- word will get out on the Forum either way, so train more than one of your own first, as proof you can do it. There are some decent foals on the Sales pages. If you start with newborns, you can take all the credit and it's easy to tell how long in horse age it took. Learn the disciplines and see if you can train at least two of your own animals to win a championship.

Play, train, read; repeat as often as possible. Study the How Tos, this thread, and anything else you can find about training in HWO.

Best wishes,
