Genetics

Post by DaHorse12 »

I would like to try to figure out the horses you are breeding's likely foal colours, because I'm studying it in science.

Midnight seems much like golden champagne (freckles idicate Ch/n and at least her dam was chestnut so e/e seems possible)with tiger eyes (only her sire had them, so t/N - one Ch enables t/N to show up)
genetic coding:
e/e A? Ch/n d/d t/N

Frizzy has some black (one foal of him is chestnut - E/e); dark legs and a dorsal stripe across his back with brown around the muzzle and under his belly, so i'd peg him as a brow dun (At/a or At/At, D/d or D/D - his parents were both brown dun or maybe brown roan? so double genes are a possibility) he could be a carrier of tigereye (his sire and dam had one parent with visible tigereye so both should've been t/t and his parents t/N so he could very well have t/N as it isn't visible with his coding - when I guessed right so far)
genetic coding:
E/e At_ D_ (if not D then R_ but seems too smooth for roan?) possibly t/N

e/e A? Ch/n d/d t/N
E/e At_ ch/ch D_ N/N (possibly t/N)

so variations for the offspring:
e/e A? Ch/n d/d t/N or t/t - golden champagne with none, one or full tiger eyes
E/e At_ Ch/n d/d t/N or t/t - sable champagne with none, one or full tiger eyes
E/e A/a or A/A A/At Ch/n d/d t/N or t/t - amber champagne with none, one or full tiger eyes
E/e At_ ch/ch d/d t/N or t/t - brown with none, one (invisible) or full (visible) tiger eyes?
E/e At_ ch/ch D/d t/N or t/t - brown dun with none, one (invisible) or full (visible) tiger eyes
E/e A/a or A/A A/At ch/ch d/d - bay with none, one (invisible) or full (visible) tiger eyes
E/e A/a or A/A A/At ch/ch D/d - bay dun with none, one (invisible) or full (visible) tiger eyes

(I used the terms of this site http://www.horseworldonline.net/forum/v ... =13&t=2158 for the genes)
but if dun and champagne doesn't cross each other out then theres more - and this whole post i would've been spouting complete nonsense, maybe someone else could also help an or look my post over?

It makes sense to me. I can also get someone to look at it if needed.
