Second Breed Suggestions?
I finally decided to settle on Welsh Cobs (Section D) as a breed I want to work on - its the first horse I rode as a kid, so I kind of have a soft spot for them.
Anyway, I'm just working on foundation lines right now (I prefer going slow and starting from the very bottom and working my way up so I get the exact look, temperament, etc, that I want). I've been considering adding a second breed to add some diversity, but I don't know what to choose. I'm not really partial to any other breeds, though with breeding the Cobs I suppose it would be easier to choose a breed that is used in their creation, can be bred from Cobs, or is somehow or another not too distantly related to them. Picking a vastly different breed and having dozens of different lines going seems overwhelming to me.
I've been considering a TB line (I love racing irl and they're used a lot in Cob breeding), Cleveland Bay or Yorkshire Coach Horse (I like the idea of British carriage/driving type horses, and they would kind of fit that "theme" with the Cobs, and both are not-too-distantly related to the Cob via Norfolk Trotters), Suffolk Punch (love the look and are a direct descendant of the Cob), or maybe Hackney or one of the other Welsh Ponies (Section A, B, or C). But again, I'm not really overly partial to any of these breeds, and may be open to other ones as well.
Do you have any second (or third) breed suggestions? Anything I mentioned that could use some dedicated breeders and would fit in with my Cobs? (I try to breed to breed standard in looks, temperament, competition ability, etc ((ie, no 20hh Thoroughbreds that are appaloosa spotted)).
