Hi,

What are the advantages of a high genetic potential?

High HGP offers better stat genes. Aside from what people choose to purchase on the game, a horse with a higher HGP should perform better in comps.
Breeding a high HGP horse with another high HGP horse, should produce an offspring in like company.

But because the game is very much realistically made, just because you have a top-notch, HGP horse, doesn't mean that horse will always win competitions or produce the best offspring. There is much more to it. Think of high HGP as the total sum of every ancestor before it. What went into making the horse? Where they good producers? Did they have great competition careers?
So it depends on what your end goal is. On the game, a horse with a higher HGP is generally worth much more than a horse with a lower HGP, but if that's not your goal, the horse may become meaningless in your breeding program.

That being said, I offer you this as well: a high HGP will be limited to how low or how high they can offer certain stats, for instance, if you breed the horse to another with a very low HGP, the resulting foal can only be so low, not lower than it's low parent, and it can only be so high, not higher than it's high parent (so far as I've experienced, outside of about 20,000 HGP point difference, this rings true).
