Do you like a horse with a high COI or low?
I have been breeding on here for a couple of months and me personally try to breed for a higher COI. Because I seem to have better luck passing on traits that I like to the foal. But, I have also noticed that the stallions I put out for public breeding the ones with the lower COI are bred more often... So, I was wondering what people prefer when breeding? Do you look for a mare or stallion with a High COI or a low one?

Personally, I prefer low. This does come into play if I have a couple horses for breeding that I'm trying to decide between.elizabeth1 wrote:I have been breeding on here for a couple of months and me personally try to breed for a higher COI. But having a higher COI does offer a better chance of keeping, or inheriting certain traits. For instance a high tail set.
When I'm looking at horses on the market, for breeding or sale, the number of total horses in the game will also hold sway over what COI I'll likely accept. The more total horses that there are in a game, the lower COI I'll be aiming for. With a very small population of certain breeds, higher COI's don't concern me so much, because there's limited breeding stock to keep a horse pure.
When I'm breeding on my own farm with closed bloodlines, I generally like to see a COI somewhere in the 30's or lower. This enables me to have a higher chance of keeping the traits I want, while allowing new traits or opposing traits to gain ground to remove or lesson the traits I don't want.

Re: Do you like a horse with a high COI or low?
So far I have been breeding horses that have 0% COI or as low a COI% as possible. I am not concerned at all with passing on physical traits as I like to be surprised. High evaluations are important for me since I am trying to produce specific breeds and because I like horses to look like their breed; horses with high COI% tend to have low evaluations for their breed and look rather deformed. Also, I have a goal of keeping as low a COI% as possible in my own herds.
