Mealy Chestnut?
Awaken Blizzard

What color is he, I have a hard time with colors! I think his mom is a busckin and his dad has a cream gene. I think he is a wild bay but the mane is what gives me trouble. What genes does he carries ? Thanks!!

Re: Mealy Chestnut?
Your horse is a mealy bay with snowflakes. The snowflakes are caused by the Lp (aka Leopard) gene which is also causing his coat to varnish - the greying affect you see. So your horse is E? A? Lplp. At this point it's impossible to know if he's EE or Ee. His agouti is either Aat or Aa depending on if his sire carries a hidden black gene or not.clovine wrote:Awaken Blizzard

His sire actually does not have cream. He is brown with snowflakes. He looks like a 'washed-out' black because of the varnishing from the Lp. If you look at his baby picture you can see that he started out as a dark brown and in his older picture you can see the red areas on flanks, armpits, and muzzle that mark him as a brown horse. As he's aged he has developed some Lp sooty that has darkened his red areas.
Yes, your mare is buckskin. She also displays mealy and sooty.
