Part breeds breding
I was wondering...
If the "recipe" says for example Cleveland Bay = Thoroughbred x (Arabian xNorth African Barb), could you get a Cleveland Bay if you breed (TB x Arabian) x (NAB x TB) ? If they good in evaluaton would t be possible?
Or can you breed (part NAB x FH) x Arabian and get WAB?

Re: Part breeds breding
Simple answer: Probably not.
You would be changing the mathmatical equation required to create those breeds by breaking apart and regrouping like that. The computer code created to map out those breeds in the recipe is pretty precise.
More than likely, you'll get a whole other breed you didn't intend that was part of a different recipe or a Grade if you really mess up.
Give it a shot though. Still tinkering with these things myself. I could be wrong. We are suppose to be testing.

I don't know if that is possible but I do know that I have had an abyssinian foal out of two North African Barb parents. One of the parents had a purebred arabian in its pedigree though (like grandgrandparent or something similar) but wasn't actually considered part NAB itself.

You don't happen to have a link to this foal do you? So I can check out what's happened.Totina wrote:I don't know if that is possible but I do know that I have had an abyssinian foal out of two North African Barb parents. All other comments here are correct. The breed recipes have to be followed correctly in order to get the new breed. The only exception to this rule is for 1st gen crosses such as the Akhal-Teke. A Teke is an ArabxTurk, but you could create the Akhal-Teke by crossing two ArabxTurks to each other.

Re: Part breeds breding
I have rehomed my abyssinian foals since I am not looking for that breed but I just got another one just to show you.

I also have noticed that I can get abyssinian foals out of part NAB x Arabian horses (that are not 50/50 crosses) if bred with a NAB.

Re: Part breeds breding
If you don't need this foal. Could I buy him from you to check into whats going on?
The parents don't necessarily need to be 50/50 or purebred. As long as the Breed description matches the recipe (regardless of Half, Part, Mixed, etc.)I also have noticed that I can get abyssinian foals out of part NAB x Arabian horses (that are not 50/50 crosses) if bred with a NAB.

Re: Part breeds breding
Sure, the foal is now up for sale.

Re: Breeding COI
I'm still confused by the 7 gen COI thing. lol and then near it there's percentage numbers...Eg: 7 gen COI 6.80%
How do you use them numbers to get a good foal that will excel in something rather than suck in everything? lol
