Allow only breeder to change the horse's name

Hey there

I couldn't find any suggestion regarding this so I thought I'd open a new topic.

I, personally, think it is very annoying if you sell a horse and the name gets changed. I like to name my horses with the first letter of their dam/sire and it destroys the pedigree if the next person just changes it. Also because all the documentation I had about this horse is useless, when I check the pedigree and it has a different name.
So I would be happy if only the breeder could change the name of a horse.

Also another thing would be that either only the breeder can rehome a horse or that only horses with no offspring could be rehomed. Alternative could there be an option for early retirement (like in another post suggested) so you could get rid of a horse with offspirng without loosing the information. I am afraid to sell my mares I kept foals of because I don't want them to be deleted.

So I keep them until they retire without using them. Both suggestions would help that those mares could help other users with their breeding projects instead of waiting for retirement in my pasture.

This will be added once we have Registries. The idea is that once a horse is Registered his/her name cannot be changed. We aren't too far away from having Registries added in.

The game is already setup so that horses with offspring cannot be rehomed. We don't want broken pedigrees either

Ohh - thanks for the answer! Registries sound awesome and sorry for not knowing that you can't rehome horses with offspring. I never tried it. Only tried to rehome a horse I bought off another user but I guess it had no offspring then So thank you for clarifying

Mmm... I don't like that of only the breeder being the only one to name the horse.

There could be the typical troll naming the horse something you won't like at all later.
There is also the possibility that people name the horse: For sale or simply add the $ symbol and that
horse would stay like that, don't think it would come handy.

I'm not sure I like the name thing, if it was a prefix instead I would understand.
If a horse were o have a permanent name, wouldn't it make the horse sales overflow? Some people are quite picky over names, myself included. A prefix could go in front of the name, and can't be removed by anyone who buys the horse.

No, it wouldn't make sales overflow... If you won't buy a good horse because of it's name, that kind of your own fault/problem.

Alright, it's just in other games I've been in, permanent names would cause some people to say no to buying. I've had people say no to buying off my pets because of the names.
Maybe it'll be different here, I don't know.

I think that if a person finds their horses aren't selling because of the names, then they'll likely sell their horses without names (allowing the next owner to give the horse a name), or give the next owner a choice of name (when we have Buying Requests added in).

Eventually we'll have actual branding too, not just adding a farm prefix but an actual branding on the horses side. This is a future feature though.
