Help Me Decide

Post by Diskid »

I keep going back and forth between what breed(s) I want and can't seem to make up my mind. I have a few in mind that I like, but I don't think I'd be able to breed all of them, at least not really the way I'd want to (I like breeding for how the breed is supposed to look and I've found that it seems that most other players don't do that, so then to achieve the desired look I want, I end up breeding more foundations of different breeds as opposed to using someone else's stock for breeding).

Anyway, what I'm considering:

* Welsh Cob: Section D, bred to the English standard for color, height, and temperament specializing in most English events and all driving events. A little section D Welsh was the first horse I ever rode as a little kid and she became my regular mount for several years. I have a little bit of a soft spot for Welshies. I'd also have some interest if I went this route of possibly starting a line of section C Welsh Pony of Cob Type since they don't seem to be getting any love in the game. This is probably the most "involved" horse I'm interested in in terms of complicated lineage, so I'm a little daunted by the long road it will take to get there.

* Friesian: Bred in the classic-type as opposed to the Baroque or Sport type, bred to standard and specializing in dressage and driving events. This is personally my favorite breed, though I struggle with wanting to breed it vs one of the other breeds and not being sure if I'll be able to manage one breed on my one account and the other on the second. I've also toyed with the idea of breeding Andalusian along with them since they are closely related and I like Andy's too.

* Thoroughbred: again bred to standard for racing thoroughbreds and specializing in sprint, racing, and steeplechase racing. I won't say I don't like the Thoroughbred, but there's nothing particular that I like about the breed itself. What I like is the racing aspect. Its by far the equine sport I am most familiar with and know the most about. Also most of the TB on here seem to be lacking when it comes to actually looking like TB. I also have a slight fancy if I went this route to start a line of Standardbred for harness racing, as I believe the two are related.

* Rocky Mountain Horse and/or Florida Cracker: Like the TB, I don't have any particular love for either of these breeds (though I am Floridian, so there's that), but I like the idea of breeding a gaited horse and having that extra quality to breed into my horses (once gaits are added, that is). Again, both would be bred to breed standard. The RMH seems quite complex to breed to (even more so than the cob), while the Cracker seems easier. Neither one are common in the game and by the looks of it I'd probably be the only Cracker breeder in the game at all.

So, what is your opinion? What should I go for? Should I stick to a single breed entirely if I go for something more complex, or should I do one breed per account?

I like complex. I am working on belgians with a hgp of 70 plus, which i have achieved.
I have beautiful apps with movement which is hard to get with any breed.
I have Arabians with hgp of 73 plus. I have a mix of arab/apps which are doing great in show ring.
Still trying to get American Warmbloods, spotted saddle horses (thinking gaited one day too) and my awesome Pintabians. Want them all 5 for their standards plus beautiful and hgp. I've just breed the only American Walking Ponies in the game so they are special to me. Plus my never ending leopard project. I also train my own and show daily. So i have a lot of pans in the fire but that's what makes it interesting. As far as your two accounts, you may want to use one that doesn't age, so your better stock can live there.

I like the Thoroughbred comments, truly most of the Thoroughbreds I see on here are a shame. I dabbled with the breed a bit and tried to breed 5* TBs that did more honor to the breed.. would like to see some quality TBs! :)
