When's it a good time to start showing horses, in your opinion?

Got another nice, well bred colt on the ground (thank you ruby jane for your awesome stallion!); 6 golds, 70,420 hgp. I'm currently training him up, the minute he hit the ground I entered him in level 5 endurance shows and he placed 1st across the board. What would be a good age to start entering him in real competition? I'm thinking 1 years as he'll have some adequate training on him by then. What age do you guys start putting a record on your horses?

You would be hard pressed to find a competition to enter at one year old, the default is two to twenty. I wait until my horses are fully trained.

Hahaha, you're right about the age I chose! I'm not sure how old the horses I fully trained are as I stopped training a long time ago (more of a breeder ) but I'm practicing on the colt above.

I start putting my horses in competitions when all skill stats are at 25%. For me they reach 25% in all stats at just past 2 years old. They place in lower levels and then gradually move to higher levels (in the competitions that they are good at) as I continue training and their training condition increases. This works for me but I depend very much on player-run competitions for money; using this method generates a lot of revenue. If you want your horse to place at higher levels immediately or have a better competition record (higher % of placing 1st, 2nd or 3rd), then you will want to wait until their training condition is higher. Different ways to play! I also tried training first only in the skills required for certain competitions so that I could place them in those competitions more quickly, but I realized I was losing the revenue they could be generating from the lower-level comps, and it was a gamble as I can't predict very well which competitions they will be good at.

I am a breeder as well. From my standpoint, if I do compete a horse, I do so after it's fully trained (trained to 99% or above in all stats). It's a bit rare I do that though.

I do run revolving baby trials that a a few players take advantage of (1 year to 3 years), as a trial run for babies before heavy training takes place or for choosing... well... whatever they want to use the baby trials for really. So there are a small handful of competitions for the very young (even if I'm the only one hosting them).

It doesn't take long to train them up and the competition record will be much more clean if you wait until fully trained. But it's personal preference.
