Creating a breed question...

When I'm done with my current projects I wanna start a line of Oldenburgs and I see they are not too popular (as in 0 horses are for sale - it does say 1 is but when you click on link it says none, so we'll go with 0 ). I went to the breed wiki to see the recipe and there are a lot of crosses/breed needed to create an Oldenburg. My question is about evaluation scores, do the crosses have to be 4-5* for the breed they're crossed with or 4-5* for the breed I want to create? Hope this question makes sense and sorry for any confusion

The will ideally be 4/5 for the breed you want to create. Having said that they don't have to be 4/5 to produce the required foal, it's just more likely that you will have success if both Sire and Dam evaluate as 4/5.

That's what I thought! Thanks for answering Just had to get some things straight in my mind. Couldn't remember if the evaluation was for the cross itself or towards breeding the wanted breed

Just a note on this - while 4-5 eval is best you also want to compare the evals of the sire and dam to see if they complement each other. If your target for build Med Light - Med Heavy and both sire and dam are Med Light then you are more likely to get a foal that too light for the requirement. If one horse is Med Light and the other is Medium or Med Heavy you are more likely to get a foal in the target area. And of course this doesn't always work, and two Med Light horses could give the required Med Light (or even something a little heavier if things skew the other way) but in general it's a good idea to cross horses with the thought of aiming for the middle.
