Post by Ricardo Ardo »

Does anybody know how many generations are needed to maintain a zero COI?

COI is read back by 7 generations. I'm not sure what you mean by maintain 0 COI. I breed COI 0 horses and start with horses from the adoption center and breed them to horses they share no past with. I have reached 3rd generations of 0 COI and created new breeds. If you are talking about horses that already have COI the amount of COI they have would depend on how fast you could lower it. Not sure if you can ever get back to 0 if they were once another number. Hope this helped some,

Thank you that was just the answer I was looking for. I'm also starting to breed from the adoption center and I was wondering the viability of breeding two foals from the same pair and setting one aside for later use if that makes sense. Just not too sure yet how I will keep tabs on the foals, I don't want to be having to search through the pedigree every time I want to breed a pair.

What breed are you doing? I do them all for the adoption center and would be happy to sell you my horses I can't use anymore. No horse in the adoption center is related so you are good there. To be honest I only ever keep one foal from each of my horses unless I am using them for making new breeds. This is the best way to not end up with a bunch of horses you can't breed together because they are related. Once I get a foal I can use to breed with the next generation I sell both parents or use them for making new breeds.

I've not started yet but I will be breeding Turkmenes. My thinking was to run two separate lines from my breeding of the adoption pair, these lines could then converge after seven generations. That way I would finish up with an eighth generation for the same 128 starting horses. Hope that makes sense.

That could work, although it still may read with a COI. Still not sure about that but if you try it, it would give us an answer. I sometimes have extra AC turkmenes I sell

What are you doing with your Belgians and Arabians? If you let me know when you sell the foundations I may be interested

Thanks I'll keep in mind the Turkmenes. I'll try running the two lines and let you know the outcome. It could take a while though.

They were the start of my Turkmene project. I was going to breed the Belgians for strength and only keeping positive breeders report and the same with the Arabians only with Stamina. My intention was to cross them and then introduce the Turkmene but I was going through too many pony tokens and decided to knock that on the head. Have a look and let me know which one you want, the're all fist gen from adoption and none are related.
I'll accept any offer you care to make.
