Breeding back to Purebred [Discussion]

Post by JillJessie1997 »

Abbrevation Code:
HB = Half Belgian
PB = Part Belgian

If I got two Belgian mares, three 50% HBs (one filly, one colt, one stallion) and one 80% Part Belgian (fresh newborn colt) how would I go about breeding back to pure Belgian? Should I breed for another 80% PB to breed to another PB, or breed HBs to PBs, or PBs to the purebred Belgians? I know this game is based on real life horse genetics and breeding and I am no breeder IRL so I wouldn't know....is there a trick to breeding back to pure, or is just a gamble/lots of trial and error?

All of my horses are 5* in the Belgian book if that matters as I'm not afraid to cull any animals with less.

If you breed a purebred with a 50% the resulting foal will be an 80%,breed the purebred with an 80% and the resulting foal will be 95% breed the purebred with the 95% and the resulting foal will be purebred again. That's how I get back to purebred after crossing.

You can also breed like percentages, IE 80% by 80% and get an increase (I don't remember what the increase is)

keep in mind that if you have crossbred with a horse that already contains genes of the horse you are trying to breed you can get 100% horses with out breeding with a 100% horse.. lol does that make sense?

so if you have a [90%belgiumx10%shire] x [93%Belgiumx7%shire] you will probably get a 100% Belgium out of it..
I've done it before

Yeah that does make sense! :D

I only bred my Belgian girls to Grade horses with 5* in the breed book because I didn't want to go through the complication of breeding the cross side out.
I have three Belgians (the filly I just bought because my oldest producer is well, getting older lol), three 50% Half Belgians and one 80% Part Belgian, no crosses :lol:
