Re: Leopard Patterns - Information and open discussion
So I just had a really interesting foal born from the NAB AC mare I have. She's still being difficult, unwilling to throw many colored foals. Those she has offered, have been barely blankets.
The sire comes from a line of double spot size horses, for a couple generations, but he offered very little definition himself.
I'm not sure what this foal reveals. Except that the sire has some strong pattern genes... and probably didn't give me agouti like I wanted.
Perhaps one of you may see something in the little colt I'm missing.
...yet unnamed foal...

So I had this horse born. I'm pretty sure it's chestnut base, but... it could be bay. I had one person say it was, but...

That is chestnut unfortunately. Looking at the foal picture you can clearly see the red mane/tail where it's not white.BlackOak2 wrote:So I had this horse born. I'm pretty sure it's chestnut base, but... it could be bay. I had one person say it was, but...

Another horse with the exact same snowflake pattern. I'm starting to feel like this is more than just snowflakes. I've never had flakes this consistent before.

For comparison, here are all three snowflake patterns. The two bay pictures were taken at the same age. The black was a few months older. The section that three of them share is EXACTLY the same between them.

Re: Leopard Patterns - Information and open discussion
These two AC arabians have been giving me a very good retention of white or just a little hip blanket that extends down the back legs.

Mare: Jazz

It does look like the stallion has a negative white area at the end of those ribs.

Re: Leopard Patterns - Information and open discussion
I totally see what you mean about the right leg coverage being difficult. I never noticed how little coverage that leg gets. Looking at my horses I saw a promising one though.
I am trying to make leopard friesians and of coursed used your stock as improvement, eventually I'll breed them full. Of course the rest of her coverage atm isnt as good. If she throws a stallion with similar traits would you like me to let you know?
This is possibly one of my best marked ones so far.

Thought you's might want to look at this little colt. It's still early though...
agouti trial spreader foal

Edit #2
Is he a bay dun fewspot near leopard (possibly with pangare)?
He's a trial foal, his father is deceased.
But what to do with him? If his color is accurate (and he's not some really weird chestnut I haven't come across yet), is there interest in the community to breed to him? Is he the first (I doubt it), non-chestnut leopard beyond the neck?
(pinging everybody who's posted)
