Breeding question

Post by Ricardo Ardo »

Hi.
I decided to breed my own line of Arabians and was wondering if somebody could tell me the most efficient way of breeding out the Weak genes (red). I bought five mares and a stallion from the adoption center and all bar one mare have red Strength. My thoughts were to breed two clean offspring and if the foal showed red then cull all three but this seems wasteful as it might be only one of the parents who is carrying the bad gene.

Could somebody tell me please how they have gone about it. I'm looking to breed seven generations clear before I decide that there are bad genes lurking in the background.

you can either cross them over and over and cull out the red stat foals as they are born, or you can cross the arabians with other basic breeds such as belgian or forest horse to get better strength. if you want to keep the lines seperate from the rest of the arabians in game use only adoption center horses.

I think you want COI 0% arabians, right? if so, you probably dont want to cross over and over and you probably dont want to use other breeds? If so, i think the only thing to do is what Vallers said, use as many horses as you can buy and rehome all foals with red stats. and dont forget : if you get a foal with a red stat the first time, it doesnt mean when you breed a second time with the same parents you'll get another red stat foal..

Thanks for the input. I intend to go the route you mention Barbarossa and I understand that parents that have given a red before may not do so the next time. My issue is that that is equally true the other way round. the problem I will face is, if two clean parents spit out a red stated foal after a few generations it makes it very hard to find out which of the two parents is still carrying the bad gene.

As an aside the five Arabians I purchased are rubbish, out of 30 foals born only two have come out without any red. I could get a fresh lot but I'm a stubborn sod and won't let them beat me. :)

IF you have a parent with a red stat and it has a conformation value that is high then the chance the red will be passed on is greater. But reds from COI 0% horses dont have a high conformation i think.
And the breeders comments should also give you an indication if the horse still has bad genes.
Sometimes i breed with horses without 'stickers' (gold or green) but with a very good breeder comments, and i breed it with another horse with no golds but with the same good breeder comment.. guess what happens :) GREEN :)

and quantity is also importent i think.. sometimes i have 10 foals at a time and i trow away 9, 24 turns later i get another 10 foals and again just 1 complies to my wishes, just have patience. sometimes i breed 20 times with a horse just to get 1 good horse and then the mom dies

Yep patience is a must. I breed 15 horses a year, that my limit at the moment but I'm alternating breeding skills with owning skills so I will get to a decent level eventually. Good point about the breeders report I must confess I have never taken any notice of them but I will in the future. Thank you.

If you want to breed them only to Arabins and want to keep their COI low I have COI 0 arabians and have some with now reds and even greens in other places.
