Dark palomino or darker buckskin?

Post by JillJessie1997 »

This is a filly out of my buckskin mare that I sold and sired by my dapplainted (dappled+painted, yes I made up a word ) perlino stud.

Would you say she's a dark palomino or darker buckskin? She doesn't have the dark mane associated with buckskins, nor the lighter (unless grey is considered in that category) seen with palominos either. Either way I love her coloring and I'm definitely keeping her...so far being a broodmare is in her future  Was just curious on what color she would be considered.

She is neither. She is actually silver amber champagne, with one copy of the tiger eye gene (which is why her eyes are not dark as a normal champagne would be). Her father on the other hand is not perlino. He is silver classic champagne blanket.

Very helpful, thank you, but wow  I've never heard of any of those colors, are they actually real life horse colors or just on here? Her father was listed as perlino when I bought him too

Thanks. Your guide is very helpful as I am still learning. I missed that she was bay-based so I thought the mane must be from flaxen. Must be more observant! Thanks again. I really want to learn color! :D

Real life. Here is a page that shows champagne in real life. http://colorgenetics.info/equine/pictor ... mpagne-and

Also I found this tutorial extremely helpful as I am a color newbie. http://jenniferhoffman.net/horse/index.html

And if you ever want to sell any of her foals I would be interested in them.

Thanks for the links! Wow, champagne horses are beautiful, I've never seen one in reality before (well I don't think I have, if I have I probably called it a different color xD)...and here I was thinking I've seen many beautifully colored horses :P. The tutorial looks useful and I have it bookmarked for reference.

As far as her foals go, when she hits "of age" and is bred for the first time, I will let you know. How do you get a hold of people on the basic account type? Since you know, no access to PMs :x

Contact people just how you've already done. Called Ping... you quote them with a reply. They'll receive a notification that they were 'pinged'.
