Are the leopard patterns bugged? (My observations presented)

I got the extreme varnish, making most of them look gray or black based by 5 years. And after naming the colors of my entire herd, I realized that almost every one of them have become chestnut... from the bay and wild bay they started as. Makes it seem like chestnut is dominant rather than being recessive... like the long manes/tales that have been haunting the horses as well. Really!? I go for dominant traits and ended up with recessive. How Does That Work!?
