Pasture Quality

Post by fire12923 »

I know that the quality of the grass is supposed to go up turn by turn. But since the last time I mowed it's been going down. I have maybe 7 horses in a field with max occupancy of 12. I was counting on regularly mowing to earn a little money on the side of shows.
What am I doing wrong or not doing?

Thank you

Horses in a pasture will eat at the quality of your grass, regardless if you provide them with feed or not. The more horses you have in a pasture the more your grass quality will decay overtime. I use pastures exclusively for foals and it's crazy how quick they mow the grass lol.

Important to note that larger horses will both require more grass to maintain and eat more. With most average sized adult horses, you probably can only fit 1 or 2 more than half the pasture's capacity without them eating down the grass. I tend to do broodmares in pastures because I only fit 6 of them in at a time.
Entering trained horses into high level locals is always going to be more efficient than mowing grass, since both take time.

A last note to add to everything that's already been stated. Winter will slow the pastures' growth to a significant degree. Spring is your best growth time (if I remember correctly) then summer and fall.
