What do you focus on?

Post by Ms. Trouble Maker »

I focus more on the stats and conformation. For me, it’s less color and more focusing on the conformation to back up the genetic potential and great report!
I’ve been here since 2014 and I have yet to ever break any world record. 😂

Just looking to see what people focus on with their breeding programs! Is it stats (report), the genetic potential or conformation? Or maybe neither and it’s just colors!! I’d love to hear! 👂

Here is maybe a good driven dressage prospect. To young to tell yet

Speed ★ Stamina ★ Tempo ★ Balance ★ Agility ★ Intelligence Genetic Potential: 70,433

Speed 44
Strength 16
Stamina 37
Movement 45
Tempo 35
Agility 38
Balance 58

Starting a new focus on COI. But I breed all the horses. I want the best show horse of every breed. My long time goal. And they have to have lots of spots if i can.

Oh that’s awesome!! I love spots!! It is hard getting good show horses. Which I consider good being 70% wins or higher! :)

I used to breed Mongolians for color and eval (now abandoned) and Arabian x TB crosses for Endurance (both conformation and Breeders' Report) (these are in my freezer waiting for better days). I've started breeding Mongolians for Western Trail recently, with the main focus on conformation, but I'm really bad at culling my herd so I don't know if I will get anywhere with them eventually *shrugs*

lol I feel ya! At one point I was working on AC Arabians only to achieve green and gold stats on just the purest of the purse Arab lines, and * did that seem almost impossible some days. 😂 and that didn’t involve them competing and not knowing if they would ever excel at competitions

Haha, it's great to know I'm not alone ^^' Reaching green and gold comments while working with AC stock only must be difficult, but at the same time very rewarding! What was your strategy, did you look at Report's comments only or did you take conformation points into consideration too? I have a lot of AC horses I'd been collecting for creating Kabarda stock (someday... someday I'll get to them, I promise) so I'll have to go through this in the future, while also trying to maintain low(ish) COI... wish me luck %)

Oh yes, competing! I sincerely admire those players who train and compete their horses, I have no patience to do it with mine. I usually train 1 horse per generation so I can use it as a grinder, but that's it.

Also I'm sorry if my first message seems a little bit depressive, I picked up this project (Western Trail Mongolians) out of boredom so I'm still deciding whether I should continue or get back to one of my older projects instead (:

lol all good! COI wasn’t super important to me! I mean I think as long as you rotate and incorporate breeding outside of your barn every so many generations, then it’s ok. :) at least to me.

I actually focused more on the conformation and less on the report. I’ve had some horses have a “meh” report, such as green stats orrrr neutral stats, but the conformation be stellar. Like a neutral report in speed, but the conformation show 60+ for speed just based on the build of the horse. So I could pull off getting a supreme champion in a couple wins with a win rate of 70+%. lol with a neutral report card. So I really think conformation has much more to do with it. Now yes it is possible to have a REALLY dumb horse. lol you ain’t winning nothing with a horse dumber than a box of rocks. 😂 better to just regime those so they’re just kept out of the gene pool. 😂 that’s what I do!

I do pay extra money per month so I have all the perks of seeing the conformation and such. But pssst…. $5.00/mo is nothing. lol

I’ve noticed you can have a generic potential of 72,000 and be absolute garbage, not a single stat is over 50….everything is in the 20-40 range. And then wonder why all your wins in every event is like 10%. lol but he has good potential….. no he don’t…. Not if he’s built and looks like Jabba the hut. 😂

Take a look at this account. It’s my 2nd account where I keep all the best horses I ever bred. If you can see the conformation, take a look and do a comparison. :)

I'm breeding Arabians and Part Arabians (crossed with carefully selected Thoroughbreds) for endurance. I pay more attention to the Breeder's Report than the conformation stats, but I do look at the stats as well.

I'm also breeding black Arabs and Part Arabs for endurance; for them, I pay attention to the colour as well as the Breeder's Report and stats. For example, I'm not keen on my black Arabs/Part Arabs having white stockings, or any other white markings, and I've been having success at breeding out the white.
