When do horses die?

Post by UltimateHonse2 »

I know horses die, but when?

I have this guy and he’s gotten very old, I’m trying to get him to champ status before he dies, but when might he die? If he lives past twenty can I still breed him?

It depends on the horse and how they were treated. The stallions usually live around 23- 24 years and you can still breed them after they are 20 years old. The mares tend to live longer than the stallions if they continue to be bred after foaling. However, it is possible that a mare can pass away on the day they give birth.
I hope this helps

In addition to what's already said, horses earn their chance-to-die at 17 years. With each turn, the chances increase a little bit.

However, your biggest issue is not whether he'll survive until you want to breed to him (as long as the horse is still alive, they will be able to be bred), it's the cutoff for shows. I haven't looked at it for quite awhile, but I think the cutoff for hosted shows (not locals) is 20 years. Once he hits that threshold, you won't be able to enter him into shows anymore.
Locals you can always enter, regardless of age.

You're only 20 pts off of the Harness title. That should be the one you're working on. Theoretically, he's got a better steeplechase WPS currently, you may also want to try for that one.

There are no steeplechase races here can enter going on currently but I have entered him in a few harness races. I just pretty much wait for the day to pass and the results to come in while maybe taking a turn or two

Yeah, competitions are a little hard to come by right now. In the future, admin has said they'll address this and maybe they'll give us some HWO-run comps.

I've added a few steeples in lvl 5. All basic, but they're there if you want to use them.
