Is Dun correctly displayed/coded?
Probably more of you have noticed that the dun gene is not matching it real life counterpart. Just the colour dun is displayed as some odd brownish color that I've never really seen in real life. What I have seen tho is a lot of norwegian fjord horses, a breed that has probably the biggest spectrum of duns in their breed. From what I've understand Dun can be expressed in a spectrum more similar to the game as well like in some american breeds for example but theres still missing factors there.
Note that I am a relative new member and if there are variation of the regular dun, grulla etc that are implemented in game that I do not know of, pleace notify me. I only know the little dun I bred and short info from a colour guide found here in the forums.

Here is a non trimmed norwegian fjord horse of their most common color dun, just regular dun. A very primitive dun which is also seen in the przewalski horse

Here is my almost 3 y/o wild bay dun. Lets compare this. The first thing I see is the mane. Entirely black in game and will never be pale with a dorsal line within. Second is the odd shade.
Here is another example, this also being a regular dun but a wild horse this time. Its more similar to the one in game since this has entirely black mane and tail

And now heres a more common sight, a so called "bay dun" from what google taught me. Most similar to what you find in game. Its dark and have dark mane. Nothing I would glance at and really call a dun but I am just a hobbyist in genetics. ... source said it was but idk
All the horses look very different and theres probably more depth to the gene than I know. I mostly base this post on what I already know about fjord horses which are very simple since their shades only differ depending on which color they are based on. An easy thing would be to say all fjords carry a cream gene and thats what makes them pale but then the color kvit (cremello + dun) wouldnt be so rare. This might just be me rambling confusing sentences but what does make a fjord horse appear so light? Is there more genes to it and I'm just not seeing it or is the game displaying dun wrong? MORE DUNS!

One of the grulla horses I own at this moment

Grulla Icelandic horse (in this game called icelandic pony for some reason???) Not much light coloration in the mane on this particular individual but its a variation of dun on black. Typical dun trait. Also, this individual have display a dark face which is a common grulla trait. Does that exist in game? Grulla may also not always be a grayish colour just like displayed here.

Heres a grulla fjord horse, also known as usblakk. Mane is trimmed like most fjords with short mane displaying its dorsal line (which again, does not exist in game) with its white frame. This individual displays a pale face just like the horse I showed first.

And last, a grulla which has the same mane as the one displayed in game but dark face.

Now, I dont have a lot against the red dun but lets not forget this very undersaturated ingame version.

(right one most likely being palomino + dun. correct me if Im wrong)
I am not here to bash the game, believe me. I love it and think its revolutionary in its genre. But boi either I am really confused here or something is forgotten. Anyway, have a nice day and have some dun fjord butts

Re: Is Dun correctly displayed/coded?
There are different "shades" of dun in the game. Some are just barely dun and some are very diluted. I have for example this chestnut based dun horse that is very light coloured:

About the norwegian fjords they usually have additional mealy countershading, like the przewalski horses in the game have. Just look at a bay/chestnut dun fjord and see the lighter part around their muzzle which is part of the mealy/pangaré gene.

The light version is still very dark by fjord standards. Ive seen very strange coloration in game when ppl try to breed dun w/o the cream gene because it seems there are not any lighter shades. Correct me if im wrong tho.
An yes you might be right and you probably are. I was thinking in a similar way but I have really no clue whats really hiding there. The last picture in op also points towards that.
But still, an addition I am almost sure the game does not have and need is the dun mane and tail. Would really look forward to see some fjords, spanish mustangs and more with long dun mane. Its a really beautiful gene.

You are correct that the effect is currently missing from manes and tails, this will be coming in a update.
