Help with Colours Please! (The StarChampion's Farm)
Hey everyone! I've just recently started on here and I'm very interested in all of the genetics of the horses, mainly their colouring. I have a couple of horses that I'm just not too sure about, and if anyone could help me figure out their colours, that would be really helpful. I have guess a couple already, so I'm sorry if they are wrong because I have no idea what I'm doing!

I'll give it a shot.Thank you so much! I have a couple more if you wouldn't mind:

Number one: I'm not great with foal coats, but I'm pretty sure she's a perlino (double cream on bay base). One cream is of course from the mare (who is homozygous for cream and will thus always give a cream to her foals), and the other is from the sire who I believe is a brownskin (seal brown base color with one cream).
Number two: This one is chestnut with metallic sheen and I think dun, considering the fact that her lower legs seem a bit more "vibrant" than the rest of her body, which has almost a greenish tint.
Number three: Brownskin with dun and metallic sheen.
Number four: Plain chestnut. Should turn out about the same color as the dam.
Number five: As previously mentioned, I suck at identifying foal coats, but I think this one is seal brown. Doesn't seem to have inherited any cream from the sire. Might be dun, but I can't really see any markings, so I think it should come out a regular seal brown.
More experienced players: please let me know if I'm wrong.
Hope this was helpful! I also really enjoy the genetics side of things, so let me know if you want me to add anything regarding the genes!

Thank you so much! That was very helpful! You're certainly doing it better than me already, so good job. I was just curious with the 3rd one, how do you know that its metallic? I'm not like questioning you or anything, I'm just curiousEmiisheartless wrote: ↑Sat May 03, 2025 11:44 amI'll give it a shot.Thank you so much! I have a couple more if you wouldn't mind:

Re: Help with Colours Please! (The StarChampion's Farm)
Metallic is seen as a kind of sheen, very similar to that of a fully trained horse. I usually find that the horses get a slightly darker tone, as well as more variations in the coat. Highlights become more visible and the coat looks more "3D" with more depth. I'm currently breeding for the gene, so if you check either of my accounts you can see a few metallic horses, as well as the same coats without the effect.
Seal brown is just another name for brown. I use it to make it clear that I don't mean a bay or anything of the sort, but either name works
