NAB mare from AC - color???

Post by Emiisheartless »

Hi! I am very new to this game and really struggling to identify the color of this mare. I have two fillies from her; one silver bay that appears to be greying, and one who appears to be champagne, but it's hard to tell as she's very young. I thought the mare might be a silver grey, but she hasn't gotten any lighter since I got her and her legs are still very dark. I read that horses with double silver gene (Z/Z) can grey out faster, could that be the case with her? I am really interested in the color genetics, so it would be great if anyone could help me figure out what color she is so I know how to breed her!

I'd say she's a silver bay with gray and maybe roan. Just with her mane and tail being gray and her lower legs still being dark makes me think silver bay. The more foals she has, the more information you'll be able to collect. She has a foal with a chestnut horse and a palomino dun, so that tells us that she's definitely carrying the E allele which makes dark horses, and she's passed that on to both her foals. Since one of her foals is not silver, she would be Z/z, but she could have two copies of the graying gene. If she only produces gray foals with non-gray stallions, that means she's got two copies, although I suspect the buckskin foal is not gray.
