Feeding Problem

Post by Purcy »

I just bought a new horse who's weight was poor when purchased. However, it's been a while of feeding her 125% (max) of four different feeds and she is still not eating enough for energy. Is this a glitch or do I need to do something else?

For reference, here is the horse:

Take a closer look at what you're feeding her. Do you see the reds there? Take a closer look at the one marked 'Max Qty'. This is the top of what she can eat at any one time. If ever this number turns red, this means you're trying to stuff more down her gullet than she can possibly eat.

When horses are young (mostly two years and under), these horses have trouble sometimes eating what they need to survive (although we cannot lose any horses from obesity or starvation, it can become troublesome during training). It's best to throw them into pasture and fill up any remaining needs on weight gain formula.

Also, keep in mind that food is fed to our horses from first one (the top one) downward. So the way it's set up now, you're trying to stuff her gullet with hay and she probably is maxing out on hay in her stomach before she can even start on anything else (we cannot choose the order of the feed, it's alphabetical). If you want to keep her in the stable, put her on weight gain and performance mix. Put the weight gain at max and the performance mix right up to just before [Just Before] her max qty turns red. You may not be able to give her any performance mix currently, but when she turns two years, you should have a greater range you can feed her.

More in depth found in guides in my quicklinks, including a visual one. If you need additional aid, let us know. :D
