This was a surprise! This little pink girl popped up out of nowhere. Neither of her parents' lines have thrown such a pale, pinky creature yet. I didn't even think they had powerful dun or pangare. So, I definitely wasn't expecting this.

It's a pleasant surprise though! I know the pink probably won't stick around for long, but it's cute right now.

She's so cute! From what I've seen if they carry the right genes (Dun and Pangare) the foals can come out pink even if the parents are normal coated horses themselves. However if those genes aren't high enough expression the foals will "dull" out to a normal or slightly lighter chestnut. So with Fancy Doubts sire having the Dun gene and her dam having a fairly expressive Pangare gene I'd say you have a 50/50 chance of her keeping her pink color. My own pink line started by chance just like this with Pink Gem who was born pink and just never faded :D

Fingers crossed she doesn't fade, then! Maybe she'll even pass her colors on, as there is quite a bit of dun and pangare floating around in this line.

And wow your Pink Gem was so many pretty shades over the course of her life. The color she is now reminds of a metallic gel pen I had back in high school.

Lol yeah her pattern gene really caused a lot of changes nearly every few years she's a slightly different shade :D

At one year, we've got a pretty rosy, rusty, salmon color. ♥

Tried a few breedings to see if the Pseudo Grey (Pink) horses would also show up on bays. It almost seems like if the offspring isn't born pink then they don't fade out to a false grey tone. Makes me wonder if what causes this color really is sooty or not since no normal offspring show obvious sooty. I did manage to get a nice filly but this just makes me wonder what would happen to browns since they generally don't show the pink very well.

Fascinating! Who knew the "pink" mystery would be so complicated?

And hey if you did want this boy, you're free to take him and do whatever you want with him. My stables are maxed out.

Lol yeah I'm in between generations on my marwari line so I gave into temptation to play around with the bays a little.

I listed an offer let me know if you want more for him. If you ever have anymore that pop up that you don't want let me know!

Ha! Yeah... That offer is just fine lmao. It comes at a great time as I was almost out of funds.

I'll definitely let you know if any more show up looking pinkish. And I'm looking forward to seeing how your pink adventures continue to turn out. 8-)

I was thinking about it and... do you want both/either of the parents of Fanciful Rain? As much as I really like both of them (especially attached to Fancy Doubts, the salmon-colored mom), they don't fit my breeding project and so are just getting older in my account. It's really a shame that they're not being appreciated as much as they could.

If you'd want either of these two as well, let me know!

-- Also, another clue to things. The pink girl, Fancy Doubts, had a bay filly who didn't have that dun body mask or extensive pangare covering her color up, and she is BRIGHT bay. So, I'm sure being super bright red underneath the layers of dun and pangare is contributing to the pink effect (maybe along with having that "pink" hued pangare instead of the "yellow" one.)
