Re: Tail spot on Tarpan?
Oh it's always so cool to see the real-life versions of these markings! I love it.
Wow, I wouldn't have thought that a snowcap would have had separate white spots large enough to cause a tail spot like that away from the blanket, but... look at that! Real life versions. How interesting. I wish I could move his tail hair and see what it looks like under there.
I'd be interested to see other instances of unconnected Lp tail spots on the site. I tend not to intentionally get Lp tarpans from the AC so maybe that's one of the reasons I've never seen one like this before.

I had an idea for a project to tackle in the future at some point, just to see what could happen.
It was to find these tail and mane only Lp horses and see if I could create a full white tail with the Lp that doesn't show or shows very little on the actual body. We know we can make the tail become mostly or fully white from the Lp, however, the body Lp is displayed quite forcefully. Disconnecting the tail from body Lp (eye-see), may be quite difficult.
Feel free to see what happens and try it yourself.

Yeah I couldn't help but wonder about that too! If I wasn't up to my neck in an all-consuming breeding project right now, in which reserving space for Lp-carrying Tarpans directly works against it, I would absolutely give that a shot.
He's already 10, so I think I'll at least try to get that tail to show up on one descendant, just to carry the genes forward. I also put him up for stud, in case anyone else wants to play with his genes too.

Maybe somebody reading this (or multiple somebodies) will take you up on that offer.

Re: Tail spot on Tarpan?
Interesting little development! I got a couple offspring of his that were born with tail spots, and at first I didn't think theirs were quite the same as his was, since I could see where their tail spots were connected to the blanket via a white spot on the rump (you can see it better in their gallery with the black background)... but then that little connector bit has "disappeared" on the one offspring that has reached adulthood so far. Don't know if the spot just "rolled off" the art somehow or got smaller until it was virtually invisible or what, but I don't see it on the adult art anymore. So, I wonder if this is in fact the same case as the original horse.

Re: Tail spot on Tarpan?
The white spot on their rump isn't actually their rump - it's the top of their tail. So it moved with the tail when they grew up and their tail position became set. The top of their rump is the dark line of their dorsal stripe.

Re: Tail spot on Tarpan?
Oh! I see. So it's more like the tail part of the artwork "moves out" of the body and we can just see the part that ultimately ends up lined up with the top of the rump when it finishes moving. Fascinating to see how the artwork actually functions.
Well, I suppose this at least means that the tail spots of these two really are just as "detached" as their sire's is! I still wish I could shave the tails and see exactly what the bit of white looks like is causing these spots.
