Pink Filly

Post by Shadow Scar »

Just had this beauty pop up. Its almost a shame to age her up because I'm assuming she'll lose the pink tone eventually. Anyone know what causes this color tone? I know that there is Flaxen, Pangare, Pearl, and maybe Dun floating around in this Bloodline. Seems I was completely wrong  If Anything she has ended up growing into the pink color instead. I've produced several full siblings but, it seems they don't carry whatever has given her this color.
Pink Mare

Dull Pink Stud

I've attempted to breed these two together and gotten a decent result however they seem to be more of a inbetween color and still lack whatever makes their Dams coat look the way it does.

She made me think of a strawberry roan at first too! However I absolutely obsess over tracking their genes and this bloodline hasn't had any Roan in it for a very long time. I'm honestly leaning more toward the Dun and Pangare (maybe Flaxen) that's kind of been just barely noticeable has somehow just decided to show up in a crazy way?

Pink foals are most often caused by the combinations of extreme pangare and dun, combined. But we can also get pink foals from other dilute combinations (as well as the inclusion of Lp fading the coat). Extreme dun can give us a pink-ish coloration as well as extreme pangare, both alone (pangare does a slightly better job of it). Double and triple dilutes can also force this coloration to appear.

It's not an easy phenotype to force into a herd, but not too difficult to maintain if working alongside COI practices.

Very pretty. :D
