Can AC Shetlands be sooty dapple?

Post by Cypress Creek Test »

They definitely can be sooty- but I've been scouring for a sooty dapple one for a while, and no luck so far. Do the dapples happen in shetlands or are they only in other AC breeds?

The master switch is only in one gene. Since Turks are seen in the AC with dapples, they're the one with that master switch. That doesn't mean that other breeds don't have the dapples, it only means that you'll only ever see any dapples appear, if you breed to a turk that has the switch and he or she passes it on.

Here's some other notes about sooty dapples:
Dominant Gene.
3 strength genes also in just that one master switch breed.
Must have both sooty and dapples to appear.
Master switch breed rarely appears sooty & 1 in 4 horses will carry the gene.
