[E] Height Study
Please don't quote this, thanks!
I wanted to see if there's an exact correlation between foal height and adult height of a horse, hence this has been born. I'm not sure if someone else has done this, but if you have then I'd be interested to see your results! Go ahead and post and comment as you like as I'll be keeping the data in this main post.
I've listed the ages that I'm testing below. I'll be putting these in order from tallest foal at the top to shortest foal at the bottom. Hopefully I'll get some duplicates height-wise so that we'll be able to test if height is constant based on foal height, or if there's a slight variance.
Gender/Link || Newborn Height || 6 Month Height || Maturity Height || 5 Year Height
Filly || 29 Inches || 6 Month Height || Maturity Height || 5 Year Height
Colt || 27 Inches || 8.3hh || 11hh || 11.2hh
Filly || 27 Inches || 9hh || 11hh || 11.1hh
Filly || 23 Inches || 29 Inches || 9.1hh || 9.2hh

Re: [E] Height Study

But I can offer you some initial insight already. Horses stop growing up on their fifth birthday. There is correlation between birth-height and adult height and also, the larger the adult horse will be, the wider range of adult heights that come out of a birth height. For instance, a 34 incher will grow into a 14.1 to 14.2 adult height (pulling info from my thoughts, don't depend on them to be accurate). But a 10.1 incher will grow into an adult height from 18.0 to 19.1 hands.
I will offer my notes when I get to them, but it'll be raw data.

Fantastic! That's good to know; I'll alter so that my data stops at 5 years. I wasn't completely sure when it was that height stopped.BlackOak2 wrote:I have some data to offer you, but my pc is not working currently, so I'll need to send it to you when it is.

Raw data's perfectly fine! The more data the better.

Re: [E] Height Study
In my experience breeding in-hand jumpers, I think I recall that it was somewhere around 24 inches birth height that made the horse roughly 9hh. With my current project, I've noticed that everything above 28-29 inches birth height ends up being 12hh or larger (which is outside of the ideal for this project).
6 inches is the smallest a foal can be, and 15 inches for an adult.

Turns out my pc will be down until Dec 6th. So hard data from me will need to wait until then. Sorry about the wait.

Re: [E] Height Study
After some time [and some jumping through hoops] I have access to some of my notes.
Here's my info, in raw format.
I have most of these by month and then after their year birthday, by year, but that makes a horrible mess to clean up when trying to copy and paste.
So, just birth heights and then final heights at 5 years.
31 in--13.0
23 in--9.2
9.1--15.1
33 in--13.3
9.1--15.1
34 in--14.1
25 in--10.1
24 in--10.0
9.1--15.2
30 in--12.3
9.0--14.3
9.1--15.2
23 in--9.2
And some additional birth versus final heights.
10hh---16.2
10.1hh---16.3-17
10.2hh---17.1-17.2
10.3hh---17.3-18
28 in---11.3
18 in---30 in
20 in---34 in
11.3---19
