Need some help with dilutions (again)

Post by Aubergine »

I'm torn between Smoky Brown Pearl (Cr/prl) and Brown Cream/Brown Cream Dun. He hasn't yet displayed any of the markers for Dun that I typically look for. Could pearl have hidden on his dam's side for multiple generations and just popped up now?

I'm thinking... smoky black pearl grullo. Cream & Pearl on black with dun. I see some ankle flushing on my monitor. I don't see much indication of the dame being a cream carrier. If anything, probably a bit of pangare, that's probably what's coloring the flank and nose that slightly lighter tannish, but there is no distinct yellowing of it that's a trademark from the cream. So she's your pearl carrier.
I'm also not seeing much indication that the foal is a brown. Although these double dilutes on brown can really hide the flank and nose areas for brown, this one just looks too uniform for me to say brown. So I'm thinking black.

I just tend to assume everything is brown since it's so prevalent in my line. In this case though the dam is definitely het for brown so grullo is a possibility. Thank you!

I get that at times to. The one project I have, I want all agouti duns... and every once in awhile a black or a red pops out. -_-
They're looking great though! Very pretty. :D Congrats.
